Gave it a try for the first time today.

I like the overall feel, but at start, from the RW, I immediately noticed that FS 2024 inherited from FS 2020 the inability to model free castoring wheels 😞

You can firewall the throttle on takeoff and don't care about directional control, eventually having to use the toe brakes and rudder because your nose wheel can get ricky to handle... In the FS 2024 default SR22, no problem at all because it stays put all of the time ...

The tinted windows (canopy) completely spoil the daytime view for me. Unusable. 2020 was nice.

Having flown a real SR20 (albeit not the 22) they haven't got the flap extension characteristics quite right - the real one pitches up quite strongly on flap extension needing some nose down trim, the MSFS one in both 2020 and 2024 the reverse happens.

There are a couple of aircraft with this tinted windscreen effect. It doesn't look good at all.

What I'm finding more problematic is that on certain aircraft glare from the sun can make instruments impossible to read depending on where the sun is. I haven't found any graphic settings that help with this.

Does the new Longitude suffer from this?

I get some weird prop shadows or blurs in certain light 

I also noticed the engine sounds remain the same until you lower the gear.

This is actually accurate. The Cirrus has a constant speed prop which adjusts automatically with power setting. It doesn't have a separate prop RPM lever. When you open the throttle on takeoff the prop increases to 2500rpm, and pretty much stays there until you reduce power to less than 30% for landing.

@Tom WrightSince you're experienced in the "real bird", can you please offer your comment on the "poor" / "inexistent" simulation of the free castoring nose wheel, and how much it impacts on the realism of ground handling of an SR22, specially on takeoffs under x-wind ?

Oh yes that's a really annoying omission. I don't know whether it's because of sim limitations in being able to model the free catering nose wheel, but yes it is immersion breaking.

Taxiing the SR20/22 is almost like a tap dance in real life, constantly applying little taps of differential brakes on each side to get it to turn. You also need a real boot of right rudder when you open the throttle, because the powerful engine and big prop create a lot of torque, which again is largely absent in the sim.

In case anyone's interested, this was my flight in a real Cirrus, flying a few circuits and doing some maneuvers. It's a lovely aircraft to fly.

Thank you for your feedback - these details, while not important for most simmers, are indeed a big diversion from realistic operations of some aircraft.

FS 2024, just as FS 2020, are above every other sim graphically ( well, DCS is probably an exception ... ) but when it comes to flight dynamics and ground physics, it's where simulators like X-Plane 12 are way more accurate overall...

The same SR22 in X-Plane 12 default replicates those exact same characteristics you enumerate above, including the pitching moment due to flap deployment / retraction, and the dance with the rudder and tow brakes to keep it taxiing on the right track and during takeoff... It's another league...

But then again, at it's present instance, XP12's SR22, just as all CW rotating prop aircraft, will show you "negative torque" causing right roll at the full range of power settings 😞 something which is also immersion breaking... 

A pitty we do not have a simulator that merges the best of the worlds of platforms like FS, XP, AEFS, DCS, IL2, Condorsoaring, ...

It really was! Up until then all of my flying had been in 30+ year old PA28s so flying something that was 6 months old and still smelt of new leather was a real treat! A huge thanks to Echelon at Biggin Hill for the experience as well.

You can see me getting caught out on nearly all the takeoff runs by the torque. And this was only the 215hp SR20. The SR22 would be even more. Aside from that though an incredibly easy aircraft to fly and to land. The side stick control is a real joy to use and fits very comfortably in the hand.

You mentioned the sidestick, and while I did have the chance to fly a 1hr full flight simulator session ( CAE ) of an A320, it was all from the FO position, so, no big deal, but I wonder how uneasy I would feel having to use the "left" stick 🙂  

You had mentioned the torque, and indeed at least in your first takeoff the aircraft starts diverting a bit from the centerline to the port side, and I immediatley though it might have been due to the torque / slipstream effects 🙂 

IRL I'm lucky to only fly gliders, but sometimes the "wake" from the tow plane makes us feel "torque" as well 😄
