Land Bars across waterways

To be honest, it does not look like mesh tearing to me. It looks more like a section of land, as there are sometimes trees on it!

In real life, these land bars were made dark use of when occurring in nature. If the river or bay was on the border between States or nations, then anyone on the bar was not subject to the laws of the land on either side of the river. He was legally not in either State or nation.

Duels were fought on these landbars where dueling was illegal. Or smugglers sailed up the river and unloaded their wares on the sandbar or landbar. Thus avoiding taxes. Sometimes rarely the contraband might even be human slaves or prostitutes.

Sometimes they would then sneak the contraband into one of the neighboring States or countries at night secretly. But no law enforcement officer could arrest them while they were on the bar.

I think the bars occur when water polygons of the same type/properties meet/overlap. It can be fixed with the scenery editor locally, but on a global scale is probably more difficult.

Well, back in FS98 or FS2000 days, in the dawn of ground polys, if my polys did not match perfectly, I would get ground showing there.

Fast forward 25 years, and, I think this is -- in concept -- very similar.

I have noticed a rather annoying number of "land bars" (for want of a better term) at coastal waterway locations. These are strips of land that cross inlets and harbours from one side to the other (effectively creating a dam of sorts), and they look ridiculous. I assume that Asobo have been informed about this issue?

 Hey Christopher

I see that you are flying MSFS now, I hope you enjoy the ride 😉 ! Not a bad sim you'll see, not bad at all.

To answer your question, yes I saw these bars in rivers after getting back to the sim after few months of absence. I don't remember having seen them before. it seems like a glitch which came with a recent SU.

Thanks, Dominique. If that is the case, then Asobo should be able to rectify it. We should not have to wait until MSFS 2024 is released before we get a fix.

I believe the answer would be something along the lines of:

"wah, Wah, WAH!"

It's a computer program which simulates the entire world, there are going to be a few little issues.

No mate, they've been there for at least a year to eighteen months. I saw them on a UK - Australia flight I did in 2022. If you look at the picture below, you can see it in the river mouth, upper left.

Yes I remember them from when I first installed MSFS which was about 3 or 4 months after it released, so it's been a problem at least that long.

How long have they been an issue, and have Asobo been informed?

They won't do anything because as a community we put up with shoddy stuff like the below comments, they are just "putting up with it"

When developers see comments like this can you can't blame them for doing nothing. So long as consumers just shrug off bad workmanship as the new norm, the devs will do nothing,  qhy would they.

I've seen the solid lines at the mouths of rivers, too. Not many, so I looked away and flew on.

Then you get comments like this, just gold to a dev.  Somone saying something about their product is really bad, but dont worry Ill give you my hard earned money in the next product you bring out, thats after not fixing the one before, but if you dont thats ok because im just "hoping its resolved"

These have been around since the release...I assume you mean the shifting edges that occur in waters like near shoreline and rivers.

It's very bad - hopefully resolved in 2024.

again to a developer, they must just love this,

no matter how rubbish theyve done before a customer is so commited to them, they will buy any old tat, namely the next sim.

no wonder we cant get a decent product from most devs, when you read stuff like this.

The SIM is nearly 4 years old and has made millions and millions.

Ok then. I may have placed them for some kind of dikes. The ones I saw recently were in the middle of the Mississippi up North in Wisconsin as I recall. Quite incongruous.

I agree with Pete. Stuff like this (including those wonky runway centreline markings at some addon airports) needs to be corrected.

Where in my comment did I say, or even imply, any of that ? Explain fully, please.

you said

"I've seen the solid lines at the mouths of rivers, too. Not many, so I looked away and flew on"

no complaints. no problem

they are not going to fix stuff unless a large group of people complain about things, if we all "just fly on| and accept junk," they will keep making junk.

And how do you know that I didn't submit a report at the time ? ( I actually did )

You have not answered me. Here's what you said:

Where, in my original comment, did I say that I thought the product ( MSFS2020) was really bad ? It isn't - these bars across rivers are very minor scenery glitches, and only appear occasionally ( i.e. not every river is affected ).

Where, in my original comment, did I say I would buy the next product regardless of the problems in MSFS ? How do you know I'm going to buy the next product from Asobo ?

Where, in my original comment, did I say 'I'm just hoping it's resolved' ? ( which implies I haven't brought this to Asobo's attention )

Please answer each of the above, referring to my post, and not vague generalities and perceptions of the FS community as a whole.
