Aftermath of a Failed Hi-spec PC MSFS build? What went wrong?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys & Gals!

 Happy New Year everyone 😃

(MODS, please move post "if in wrong area")  but I specifically posted "here" for more general views, so people can help out..thanks)

(PS please excuse my Bad grammar.. and typo's)

I have a longtime Friend, who's recently went from OK experience on the XBOX-X (4k) to "quite a" monster build! For PC Flightsimming..

He purchased "a high quality no budget prebuilt/tested"

 *Modern Gaming computer* from a:

 Norwegian Computer company (Komplett.no)

This is his Computer Built!!!

CPU: AMD Latest 7800-X3D

Grapics-card: NVIDIA Asus RTX-4090(24GB)

RAM(32GB) 5600 speed DDR5

Windows 11 installed

TV-Screen OLED LG B8 series 65-inch

750-Mbit Internet Fiber (close to 1-Gbit)

Settings : tried both DX12 and DX11 , but even worse experience in DX11 for him..

To say he became disapointed quickly *will be an understatement*

He had PMDG 737 , Inibuilds Oslo & Inibuilds Bergen running on XBOX-X and... and with reasonable performance having *smooth* experince *no framedrops*

THEN when he attempted, *to upgrade* to a proper PC-built for Flightsimming, he tried theese same addons *on the to PC build*

He then got a lot of choppiness in 4K and was experiencing framedrops,

he was SORELY DISAPOINTED, he was getting SEVERE FPS DROPS without NO Airborne(AI)-Traffic ... with same addons as the smooth xbox-x experience

He was flying PMDG 737 into Inibuilds Bergen and Oslo and getting frames down into single digits(5FPS) he measured this on an external XBox gaming-overlay that supports the FRAME-GENERATED FRAMES.. high frames but abysmal performance(he used developer mode *to monitor the overall performance* of cpu performance and graphics performance +++

WHY did this happen, ?????

when he was SO EXITED TO FINALLY try a proper built PC with a GPU RTX-4090 and cpu AMD 7800-X3D ????

HE TRIED ALL SORTS!! Of ERROR-seeking high and low on the internet/youtube

He concluded that a *low* LOD of 100 or 90 WAS NEEDED *to achieve similar performance* as the xbox-x in 4K with the same addons..

Also he estimate the Xbox runs a LOD of 300 instead of the horrible 100 or 90 PC LOD.. thats absurd, trees and buildings and textures on mountains disaper quicly *to have similar smooth experince* on the PC..

He even lowered his settings RADICALLY and set his OLED B8 TV set to *Gaming mode 120hz* RESOLUTION 1080p mode just to make sure 60fps 4k messued up performance..

, still same rubbish abysmal results after a lot of tweaking ,

He was getting Really angry, becase he was getting WORSE RESULTS on 6000dollar PC build than on XBOX-X 600dollar **With the same addons...** he really digged in *for 4 days straigt*

Working like A MADMAN "into the nighthours" errorseeking and just came to the conclusion

***THE COPUTER IS GOING BACK.. NO PURCHASE!!** Packed it up was ready for shippment back.. Then it went a few days, and ... he tried AGAIN for a desperate solution.. To problem at hand, why why why he thought...

Pleaaaase Help and make us (him and me) and potential other PC owners of similar builds,,, understand WHAT went SOOO wrong for him?

And why he became soooooooo Disapointed at the PC Experience.

THANX...

BTW my friend is ALLERGIC to frame-drops /choppy/stuttery flight experience..

*ALL he wanted was much better 4K experience* with Framegeneration ****SMOOOTH RIDE/and realistic flight** with better graphics !!

---- ---- ---

**He sacrifized the Most of the AI traffic**(A BIG FPS HITTER)

for a SMOOOOTH Flight experience for smooth performance into(Arrival) and out of(Departures) Airports.. He tried ULTRA but quicly redused them to some high and some Ultra settings..

Why oh why DID HE GET ???

*such a Miserable Experience*

on a NEW High spec PC!!! 😮 😮

Thanks so much in advance

(PS please excuse Bad grammar.. and typo's)

Kind Regards Rune-ENHD

Seems like they didn't set something up correctly... clearly there are plenty of users with a 40xx card enjoying the sim with tons of addons.

Unfortunately I don't know what the issue is

Thanks Ryan, 😊

Maybe not enough power? Memory too slow? Bios needs updating? Those would be the first places i would be checking.

7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

I'd start with the basics. Have him run MSFS and when the performance is bad, open Task Manager. click the "Performance" icon on the left and post a screen shot like this.

That'll help him (and us) figure out where to start.

Tell him to calm down. It's probably a setting somewhere that MSFS doesn't like. The hardware is probably good.

I agree with the answers above. That computer should rip through MSFS like a table saw through wood.

Before doing any MSFS test, I would run one of the burn-in software programs to stress the system and see of there are any faulty parts. If that checks, it has to be a setting or two that are amiss.

I have politly asked him, **if he would like to try again**

but I think he is fed up, and it broke MSFS2020 feeling for him on PC, So much that he almost lost the interesst in playing the game/sim 😲😢

Also the Norwegian computer-shop has a *by Law*

14day return window*

(incase of byers-remorse)

, and he has recieved a Return-Label allready for the parcel.. so I guess he has run out of testing time now..

The computer is ready-built and tested, by a Gaming computer Hardware parts provider here in Norway. 🙂

Should it not work *out of the gate* then?? 😲 It should not have problems with stability

*if a reputable store has built it and sells it* I mean... 😲😱

The difference between PC and XBox is that the latter can be run by a totally incompetent person.

A PC needs to be configured and set up properly (hardware and software - many prebuilt PCs come with bloatware, antivirus, etc.), and then maintained (by avoiding certain websites, phishing links, malware...)

He'd better spend 50-100 extra bucks for technical help next time, it's not like buying a microwave oven or a hairdryer...

Oh, come on, it's not that easy to break heart to a Norwegian guy! The softest Viking I know was Hiccup, and even he could tame the dragons!!!😉

Mr Fuzzy that was quite Rude  actually!!! 😲🤨👎

and not really helpful at all.. to the matter at all..

(not everyone has a thick skin 😲🤨 in this world..)

He is quite skilled, has built Speakers from scratch and dabbled in electronics ! He has overclocked computers also..

He has built several computers in the past, but not windows 10/11 builds only older hardware gaming pc's

He only bought the Xbox-X because of hardware prices, *at the time* (still waaay to high in my opinion)

he started out *medium casual* then surpriced me by purchasing PMDG-737 , And soon after ge got Thrustmaster Boing yoke combo and some budget rudder pedals, he also using simbrief routeplanning and realweather..

He is a better Flightsimmer *than me* allready

Quite serious actually!!

He is almost transistioning from casual simmer to serious simmer..

Of course he had FSX , and other flightsims.. he gave up because of bad performance...

He was on the verge to try VR but choppy gameplay would make a beginner/first time VR-guy SEASICK in a instant! 😲

Greetings,

Not  sure where your friend lives but if he’s looking for a professional built computer to run any flight sim, he should contact Jetline  Systems in Florida.  I’m on my 3rd system from them.  Flight sim computers are their specialty.  With 3 purchases from them I have had 0 problems.  Superb customer support.  They really know their stuff.

he needs to first figure out if its a problem with msfs or a problem with the computer.   Have him run some graphics benchmarks and see if the results are close to what should be expected.  cpu and gpu temps need to be verified.  if he gets results that are expected, then the computer should be fine and now start looking at msfs intall/settings to be an issue.
