MSFS Auto FPS App

Before anyone does any testing of the updated MSFS_AutoFPS test app, make sure you check whether you have the latest version first available here https://github.com/ResetXPDR/MSFS2020_AutoFPS/releases/tag/v0.4.3.2-test, as I am updating it fairly frequently at the moment.

Of particular note is that from test 5 onwards I have finally fixed autostart with MSFS to create you an exe.xml file automatically if you don't have one to start with and it will configure either or both 2020 and 2024 to autostart depending on which MSFS versions you have installed.

Feedback in this thread is welcome but if discussion of any major issue goes more than a post or two I'd prefer you message me and include your log file. In providing your feedback, please keep it in the context of existing 2020 functionality as, other than the aforementioned revised autostart feature and trying to resolve the app resetting every time menus are accessed in 2024, that is all I am planning to get operational at this time. If you want new features added to AutoFPS specifically for 2024, this is not the droid you are looking for and you should contact the developer of MSFS2024_AutoFPS instead.

Thanks man for doing this!

Im getting an error 'AutoFPS is already running', however its not. Also, regarding your statement - which version will be updated in the future, yours (by Jay and you together) or Jays?

Hello Reset,

I'm using the MSFS2020-App with MSFS 2020 since quite some time with no issues - thanks.

As I want to stick to MSFS 2020 also for the near future I'm wondering, whether it is anyhow recommended to switch over to your new general MSFS2020/2024-version.

Does this actual version provide some improvements also for MSFS 2020-users, or is the 2020-part identical with the latest MSFS 2020-App-version 0.4.3.1?

Thanks!

This can happen if you did not close the installer window when you finished installing or if you have one of the other AutoFPS apps autostart and minimise to the system tray. Did you resolve this because I have double checked the code for this and it looks correct to me? If not. which specific version of AutoFPS did the app say was already running (MSFS, MSFS2020, or MSFS2024)?

Other than maintaining MSFS version compatibility, I am not planning any further updates for my version at this time so if you want new features kayJay's app is the one to use.

Good point. I'm also confused about which tool I have to choose between the two's 😉

Mine if you are happy with what the app does now and want a single app to cover 2020 and 2024 or kayJay's if you want updates for 2024 only.

The only improvement over the 2020 version for 2020 users is that when installing with Autostart with MSFS the app will now create the exe.xml file if it doesn't currently exist whereas before you had to create it manually. Otherwise, the 2020 functionality is identical.

If that is not important to you, you may as well stay with MSFS2020_AutoFPS 0.4.3.1 until such time as you install MSFS 2024 in which case you will need the updated app.

FYI, I've identified an issue with test 9 and earlier where if you start MSFS_AutoFPS before starting MSFS 2024 it may incorrectly use the 2020 config and log file and in the latter case may fail the compatibility test because of it. I am in the process of fixing it for the next test build but in the interim you won't have any issue with it if you start MSFS_AutoFPS after MSFS 2024 has been started or with any autostart option as they have MSFS_AutoFPS autoload after MSFS 2024 has started.

After a fair bit of code wrestling, I think I've fixed the wrong config file issue if you start MSFS_AutoFPS before MSFS. A minor casualty of this activity is that, while dual config files are a core feature and are now fully functional, there will no longer be separate log files for each MSFS version.

Anyway, test 10 is available here https://github.com/ResetXPDR/MSFS2020_AutoFPS/releases/tag/v0.4.3.2-test to download and try if you wish.

Release notes for these latest specific changes are:

  • Identifies which MSFS version config is in use under Connection Status as either MSFS2020 or MSFS2024.
    • If showing in red and is not the MSFS version you wish to configure, start the desired MSFS version and it will change to that.
    • Remembers which MSFS version you last used the app with and will start up next time with the config for that MSFS version.
    • If you only have one MSFS version installed, the app should always default to that version.
  • One log file will be created that logs the app's activity with either MSFS version.

There seems to be a test 11 version out:

Quote

Test 11:

  • Revised installer to warn user of the app potentially not working correctly instead of failing installation if Wasm can't be checked/installed/updated to at least one MSFS version's community folder.
  • The installation will fail if Wasm can't be checked/installed/updated to any MSFS version as the app will likely not be able to function at all.

Yes, I didn't announce as this update is to help those having installation issues because of incomplete MSFS 2020 uninstalls, of which only one user has experienced with the DynamicLOD_ResetEdition 2020/2024 update I released yesterday and no one so far with AutoFPS.

If you've been able to successfully install MSFS_AutoFPS before then this update is not essential.

Ah, I see. Anyway, I've been using the various test builds over the last couple of days in several flights in GA and airliners at different locations around the world. Rural and urban, including international airports with lots of addons (incl. FSHud ATC). Absolutely no issues - the app works just like in 2020! Good job - I'm very happy to be able to use AutoFPS in 2024!

The app is giving me considerably better performance in 2024 than 2020.  And what it provided in 2020 was wonderful.  I have (actually had) one addon airport, KSTL, where I fought performance issues.  In both sim versions.  That is now history.  I jettisoned the version I had and replaced it with the version from Feelthere. Made a huge difference.   When the pending 2024 update arrives I will test some more dense scenery areas, but difficult to imagine now any will test.  In 2020 those areas often dropped me from 70-80 down to 45-50.  I expect 75-80 will be the low with this app and 2024.  I am getting 145-155 in most areas.

Wow that's really good. I'm not getting that high FPS, but I'm very happy with performance in 2024. It seems much better than 2020 - especially in those performance heavy urban areas with major airports, complex airliners and AI traffic. Definitely quite a bit more performance headroom.

Cities and city airports I frequent include Baltimore-Washington, Indianapolis, Chicago, St Louis, Dallas, Denver, Orange County and Long Beach, Calif; Winnipeg, Edmonton.  So far no Los Angeles, NYC.  I also fly to a great number of regional airports that can handle the Hondajet.  Bloomington, Indiana; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Lincoln, Nebraska; State College, Pa; KOSU in Columbus, Ohio.  Not seeing anything below 90 at any of those, and the regionals are all above 140.  Custom, mostly Ultra graphics settings.  I dumb down grass, trees, and water a bit as I normally fly at FL320 and above and am too busy on approach to pay attention to scenery other than the destination airport.

My system specs are in my signature below.  This 7800 X3D and 4080 Super just rock.

I'm hoping that the big 2024 update supposedly coming out today doesn't break compatibility with the new app, but I will be standing by ready to fix it if it does. @Cpt_Piett, please warm up the Death Star in case I need to call on you to test MS Store version compatibility repairs 😆
