This is usually because something is open or locked in the app's bin directory. The latest test version will come some way to addressing this by at least notifying what it is and to not do a half uninstall, so for now if you want to fix this without nuking your other app settings, kill that installer window, go to %appdata%\MSFS_AutoFPS in file explorer and delete the bin folder, then rerun the AutoFPS installer and it should install fine. If explorer won't let you delete the bin folder, you may have to reboot, which should unlock any naughty file, and try again.

Hi folks. I am just starting to play with autofps. I have been using dynamic lod. I have a basic question: Are the altitudes specified in all the fields in the app AGL or MSL? I know dynamic LOD uses AGL but I want to make sure of what autofps uses.

Also, I mostly use VR with Virtual Desktop and SSW. Are the frame rates specified in autofps native frame rates or would I consider the SSW added frames in my specifications?

Thanks everyone

40 and use FPS Cap mode if using expert settings.

Thanks again. No one holds a candle to your support to all of us, and with two apps no less. You're the best!

@Reset XPDR Just tried 1st flight with MSFS2020 SU16 (clean install). AutoFPS updated twice. Got 1st ever error message on startup with latest test (4?) version: "incompatible" and it closed itself.

It updated only once for me today and worked good for the entire flight in SU16.

It should work. I suggest you try it again, making sure MSFS 2020 has reached the main menu at least once beforehand.

Will do. To be clear MSFS continued to run/load and worked perfectly after AutoFPS was closed.

AutoFPS can normally be run before MSFS, except if it is a new MSFS install or an MSFS update that changes the settings layout. In these cases MSFS needs to be run up to the starting menu at least once for it to build/update the UserCfg.opt file that AutoFPS needs to be current for the compatibility test to pass.

Dear All,

I hope you are well.

First and foremost, thank you everyone for all the efforts, but especially to the developer, as this is an absolute MUST tool for me for over a year now.

I have just updated my system to a 9590X3D with a 5090.

Any recommended settings? I have a 120Hz LG Screen, with FPS within MSFS2024 limited to 117. I used FG 3x, and TAA.

Any help in setting things up would be appreciated! I have been running it in Auto until now, but have found sometimes it struggles to adapt to the different situations.

Thanks!

I have a 9800X3D and 4090. If your display supports G-Sync, then you don’t need to limit frames anymore... You should set V-Sync on in Nvidia Control Panel (NOT in MSFS) and Reflex low latency mode on in MSFS and that combo with G-Sync will give you a tear free experience AND auto cap FPS a few below your refresh rate. V-Sync with low latency mode basically works to cap FPS automatically now. But don’t take my word for it, feel free to search around.

As for Auto FPS, I run it in full auto mode - no expert settings and let it pick the target rate. Your system (like mine) is so powerful, there’s no point wasting time trying to micromanage the settings. In MSFS I have settings maxed. TLOD 400 and OLOD 200. AutoFPS will target around 100-110 and I’ll get TLOD up to about 800 in flight and it will come down to smooth out the load on landings.

That explains it! Thanks as always :)
