BTW, 0.4.5.5 due for imminent release will show you what your default MSFS LODs and clouds are set to on the app UI, without having to go into the MSFS settings menu or wade through the log file. Wonderful thanks
August 22, 2025Aug 22 Can you please tell me something about this function? I couldn't find anything about it in the readme. What does the 5 do, and what do higher or lower values do? https://www.directupload.eu/file/d/9019/jjl4bwij_jpg.htm Edited August 22, 2025Aug 22 by PlantsAreDead

Determines how sensitive the app will be to the variance between your current and target FPS. Also determines the largest TLOD step size you will see, being double the FPS sensitivity number. The lower the setting the smaller the changes will be, which is useful if you are experiencing stuttering with the default value of 5. Vice versa for higher settings. (1 - 20 allowable). It used to be a much more influential setting with MSFS 2020 only, but with MSFS 2024, which absorbs small LOD changes without stuttering much better than 2020 does, the default value of 5 should suit most users. Feel free to try setting it to whatever suits you best. August 22, 2025Aug 22 Author MSFS_AutoFPS v0.4.5.5 has just been formally released and is available for download here. Users with Auto Update enabled should be updated to this version automatically the next time they start the app. As always, my thanks go out everyone who reported issues and provided feedback on the changes that went into this release. Executive Summary This release adds dynamic, mode‑aware LOD and cloud quality tracking with real‑time Sim Values updates, improves VR handling and startup reliability, and introduces targeted WASM and SimConnect diagnostics. It also refines UI clarity with icon‑based indicators and strengthens backend stability through smarter LOD resets, more robust update handling, and stricter memory validation. Highlights Live Sim Values updates — Default TLOD, OLOD, and Cloud Quality now refresh in real time when MSFS is detected and not in a flight session, with VR‑specific defaults shown automatically. Clearer source indicators — Sim Values header now shows an MSFS or AutoFPS icon (with tooltip) to indicate whether values are defaults or controlled by AutoFPS. Smarter LOD control — Streamlined one‑time initialisation after AGL detection, improved VR mode transitions, and LOS Correction now applied correctly in sensitivity/tolerance modes. Stronger stability checks — Initial OLOD value now memory‑verified before activation, matching TLOD safeguards. Improved update reliability — File lock detection, retry logic, and better error handling prevent failed quick updates from launching a broken app. Targeted diagnostics — SimConnect Exception 31 now triggers specific fix instructions for missing MobiFlight or WASM corruption. Please review the updated readme here, which provides a detailed description of the app, installation, features and settings, before asking any questions or raising any issues about the app. 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

Thanks, Al It's the backup file of your UserCfg.opt file that AutoFPS creates when you start a flight session so the app knows what to reset it to when the flight session finishes, after which it is deleted. If you experience a CTD in MSFS while in a flight, this backup file may still be present when you next run the app and MSFS and if so the app will then give you the option to restore it if you desire. When I start the sim(s) I frequently get the pop up window below. Is this related to the above or perhaps a separate sim issue? It seems no matter what I choose I get the popup the next sim start as well. I usually close the sim via Quit to Desktop. I'll check to see if the UserCfg.opt.AutoFPS file is being removed when I properly close the sim. Update: I just loaded a plane onto the runway in FS2024. I then went back to the main menu and "Quit to Desktop". I noticed AutoFPS did not close. I then closed it manually, and found the UserCfg.opt.AutoFPS file had not been deleted. Same result with FS2020. I am now using AutoFPS version 0.4.5.5, but had this problem before updating. If other AutoFPS users are not having this problem I would assume there is an issue with my particular setup of AutoFPS. Maybe I should uninstall AutoFPS and then reinstall? This marvelous peace of software is essential to reasonably fly in msfs 2024, what a gain in performance and visual candy at the same time - dramatic !!! Nevertheless I am unable to update to 4.5.x. The installer misses .NET 8 although it is present and even a compete uninstall/reinstall did not change anything. What am i doing wrong? i finally found the solution - very ridiculous! i had to drag the installer out of the downloads folder on to the desktop and updating just went fine... - lol

Thanks, Al No it is not normal for this to happen, even if AutoFPS is not exiting by itself when MSFS closes, as it should have restored the file when you exited your flight session. If this is happening every flight, it is most likely because you have set your UserCfg.opt file to read only. AutoFPS needs write access to restore your settings correctly and if it can't do that it will not delete this backup file on exit, hence why the message pops up every restart. Some users make UserCfg.opt read only so that MSFS doesn't trash their settings, as it is known to occasionally do. This is generally not a good idea as some SUs introduce new settings that need to change this file to accommodate them, with the just-released SU3 being a prime example of this. A better approach is to just make a copy of the UserCfg.opt you wish to preserve and place it in the same folder, which you can always restore manually should you ever need to, and do not make UserCfg.opt read-only. In the next release of AutoFPS, I will likely add a one-off warning if it detects UserCfg.opt is set to read only. It will advise the user to change it back to read/write or the user will have to accept the consequences that the app may not always restore settings correctly in subsequent flight sessions. If you have not set this file to be read-only, then there may be another issue that may be revealed in the log file. If so, please message me the contents of your latest log file, located in %appdata%\MSFS_AutoFPS\log, and I will take a look. If the installer is not able to run correctly in your downloads folder but does on your desktop, that suggests to me that your downloads folder lacks its normal default permissions, perhaps because you have created a custom downloads location and/or have restricted permissions in some way. If so, I suggest you look permissons of your Download folder and make sure it has the following permissions set for your user: 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
