TAA vs DLSS and best Nvidia control panel settings

  • Not completely. But much less ghosting with latest DLSS version
  • DLSS3. I’ve tried lossless scaling, but I’ve always preferred DLSS3

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I had to return to TAA and native resolution: 1.78 DLDSR (from 1080p to 1440p)+DLSS+Fenix+Lossless Scaling (either 2x30 FPS or 3x24 FPS) is too much for my 3060Ti, even in DX11 and medium settings (but TLOD=300). Looks like I've finally found my GPU limits 😢

Since you’ve got a very decent GPU, I’d look into upscaling the resolution using DLDSR+DLSS ultra quality. I wrote a guide on this a week ago or so. Also, I’d recommend locking fps using riva tuner li

Best quality = TAA with DX11.  Best performance = DLSS with DX12.

There are various combinations in between including using DLSS with DSR.

Personally, I'm using DLSS Quality with DX12 with the FGR mod and auto FPS mod with max FPS at 60 in the Nvidia control panel and target FPS in the auto FPS mod at 40.

It's really up to the user to experiment with the settings to find which suits their own systems and personal requirements.

I am using DLSS Quality as well, if I recall in MSFS2020 there was a setting to check to use DX12 (beta), I do not see that in MSFS2024. I am assuming DX12 is the Default?

Yes, 2024 is DX12 only.

Correct.

You might also like to try DLSS DAA as the quality is better and you don't lose much performance.  You can always go back to DLSS Quality if your system struggles.

I might give that a try. Thanks!

It's something I discovered and shared here about 2y ago now and he's already mentioned this:  RTSS w/ Front Edge Sync.  From my initial post:

Basics

  • ALL other methods of Vsync or framerate lock are OFF, except:  RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Edge Sync w/ Passive Waiting enabled
    • This method delivers incomparably low frame time variance (FTV) which I learned is the pathway to ultra-smooth animation at modest frame rates.  I'm convinced there is an inverse relationship between framerate and FTV such that the lower the framerate the more low FTV matters.  Brute force with RTX4000 w/ its frame generation obviates this some because the higher the frame rate the less it matters to have ultra low FTV in the perception of fluid animation.
    • A Gsync display is required to get rid of a tear line that appears with this method of frame rate limit (FreeSync may work, unable to test)
  • Here's what RTSS should look like.  Note we're not using Scanline sync, just Framerate Limit:

Click Setup, and scroll to Compatibility Properties:

Cool bonus:  you can toggle the limiter on and off while flying w/o stopping by using RTSS' HotkeyHandler.dll.  You can see I use Num * button on to toggle the limiter off and on.  This is useful to see where you would be unlocked.  And if I'm at an ultra demanding airport where the unlocked rate is essentially to my lock at 33/34 I'll run unlocked until up and away, then a simple button press returns me to limited (with its superior FTV and lower demand on hardware):

I hope this helps others it's been an absolutely astonishing finding and has made all flights a joy.  I tried all other methods to get here and none match this.

Here is a capture I just did now while landing into FSDT's CYVR, in the FBW A320neo.  All settings maxed save TLOD which is at 100 on the ground.  Note the absolutely perfect frame time variance which correlates very well w/ the subjective sense of smooth animation, superior to any other method in locking rates.  "Stuttering" per se is diminished as Cpt-P suggests by lowering the rate and using FG such that the sim rarely has issues delivering fully, and many other factors can come in to play for the stuttering issue.  The Gsync display issue mentioned may not be an issues any more as well, but I left it on prior to dropping the native rate down to 30 to cope with transient increases in demand that led to stuttering when not using FG, when my native rate was at 45ish:

You guys were spot on! Got the program and configured it like above and have great performance with my 3070. The heat has gone down so much too, I don't feel like I can cook an egg on my computer case any more! I fixed the FPS to 30 and its made such a difference. Thank you all so much for sharing this.
