Hi flyers

I recently upgraded from an MSI 2080 8gb Gaming Trio X to a Gigabyte 4070 12gb Super Gaming OC and am very pleased with the upgrade performance.

For system context, my other recently upgraded system spec is an MSI X670E Tomahawk Wifi motherboard, AMD Ryzen 7 7800 X3D processor and Gskill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5 6000 32gb ram. I use a Dell 2560 x 1440 Gsync display with 144Hz refresh.

I have recently realised that TAA gives sharper cockpit displays vs DLSS slightly blurred cockpit displays etc even when set to quality.

I have included 4 x images below which are my current Nvidia control panel settings plus some Nvidia inspector setttings. Just as a note - I changed from DLSS quality setting to TAA in the FS2020 sim graphics options to test the sharper cockpit displays.

Please advise me based on your experience with TAA, DLSS and Nvidia control panel and Nvidia inspector - for good FPS and sharpness, are my settings below 'good enough'?

Or can you recommend any changes/tweaks which will give me higher FPS and better sharpness etc?

That look complicated, if you use Frame Generation, give up NVCP except for G-Sync on and use RTSS to lock your frames to 60 with "edge sync"  and live happy ever after.

Since you’ve got a very decent GPU, I’d look into upscaling the resolution using DLDSR+DLSS ultra quality. I wrote a guide on this a week ago or so. Also, I’d recommend locking fps using riva tuner like @Ixoye mentions. One more thing: you might get better quality anisotropic filtering by setting 16x in NCP and off in the sim.

And since you’re using G-Sync, I would force V-Sync on in NCP (off in sim). If your monitor has an on-screen display showing G-Sync / VRR, I’d use that to double-check G-Sync is working.

Do you have the Fenix V2? How is performance because I am looking to upgrade to a VERY similar set up.

Best quality = TAA with DX11.  Best performance = DLSS with DX12.

There are various combinations in between including using DLSS with DSR.

Personally, I'm using DLSS Quality with DX12 with the FGR mod and auto FPS mod with max FPS at 60 in the Nvidia control panel and target FPS in the auto FPS mod at 40.

It's really up to the user to experiment with the settings to find which suits their own systems and personal requirements.

What is "edge sync"? I don't see that in RTSS.

In setup menu, next to enable framerate limiter.

First, please note that you changed the settings in your Nvidia Control Panel for all of your programs when you changed Global Settings. Instead, you should use the tab for Program Settings, then select Microsoft Flight Simulator as the program to be affected by your changes. What works for one program may not work for all -- which is what you're doing when altering Global Setting.

Personally, I keep my Nvidia Control Panel -- and the Microsoft Flight Simulator tab settings -- to default, except for enabling VSYNC. Currently VSYNC does not work under DX12 when you enable VSYNC from the in-sim graphics options. You must enable VSYNC externally through the Nvidia Control Panel. I too use TAA along with Frame Doubling.

Not sure if there’s much difference. I’m using front with great results (smooth).

I do not have DSR option in my NCP (whatever I have tried to change, DSR is just not there), so I use TAA as well.

With 55” 4k TV I have:

Anti-Aliasing - TAA

Render Scaling 150

V-SYNC ON

DX12

However I have different NVC settings.

I have crystal clear cockpit and instruments, fps on the ground around 60-75 in PMDG 737 in 3rd party airports like ORD, ZRH, LHR. Fps around 70-85 in the air, everything is smooth. But I have RTX 4090.
DLSS does not work for me, instruments are blurry. I have updated DLSS, it helped a bit, but TAA is still much better.

With DX12 and FG, is there an advantage using RTSS to limit the frames (60 Hz monitor here) over limiting using the NVCP? I do limit it with NVCP right now and Vsync in NVCP on.

Thanks for suggestions!

I get lots of stutters in 2D and VR using TAA. Much fewer stutters and very much higher fps in DLSS. If I go to TAA, I can't stand it for than 2 minutes. But TAA works for many users here just fine. But  there are more folks here that prefer TAA. It's almost a word not allowed shoot about which works better on any given hardware that you run MSFS with.

Take a look at this thread from page 9.

Exactly. To each their own I guess. As for myself I prefer DLSS for the performance benefit - I honestly don't think image quality is any worse than TAA. If one takes the time to update DLSS to latest version as well as implementing DLSS ultra quality - I think DLSS can actually look better (e.g. better antialiasing, post-processing).

Like TAA vs DLSS, it will depend on personal preference and what you think works best. I find the sim runs more smooth locking FPS with RTSS in edge sync vs NCP.
