GSX is a problem with Fenix

That is as long as Coatl doesn't crash again, which it seems to do regularly since the last update.

It does have a tendency to crash. I often have to restart it from systray when GSX goes unresponsive. And btw the GSX integration is working near flawlessly on my end.

Once I got some “please recheck departure” message not allowing me to continue pushback. Couldn’t find anything in manual so I resorted to reverse thrust 🫢

@virtuali you recommended AutoFPS (which of course I grew 100%) with. I’ve been doing a lot of testing lately in order to create a little guide. But I struggle to determine what OLOD actually affects. My observations so far lead me to believe it only affects airport objects. I was thinking as a developer, you would know more about this.

No problems with stutters, or smoothness problems. I have the GSX settings tweaked for my system, and after spending some time doing that, it has been hands off and problem free otherwise. I very much enjoy using it, and anytime I don't use it on a given flight, I miss it.

Same, no stutters. At least not induced by GSX I think. But probably hardware/CPU-dependent. And I use it with all airliner flights, can’t live without it, immersion is to good, especially combined with Fenix.

Every injected moveable object, that is ground services and AI traffic. On big hubs with much traffic this can have quite some effect on FPS.

EDIT: You can test this pretty easily. If you set OLOD to 10, you'll see ground services being rendered in a very ugly LOD (until very close) and aircraft being without landing gear etc. When you zoom in on them, they gain detail, though.
Not sure if static airport buildings and stuff are influenced by this, I *think* this is done rather via Terrain LOD.

Thanks, Google didn’t give the answer. It corresponds with my observations.

EDIT: I should have chosen a larger airport. Droning top-down over KFJK part of jetways as well as ground objects disappeared at low OLOD. I previously thought OLOD affected all buildings. In my Rio video, neither TLOD nor OLOD affected the many non-PG buildings in the metro area.

At LIMJ which is pretty object heavy: OLOD 10 makes even close objects (e.g. pushback truck, GSX people) go blurry. Bit further away and they disappear completely. Static airplanes are also affected.

Update:

I've posted a Beta for 2.9.6 to try here:

https://app.box.com/s/wfiu97shs0r91vmaj0jl

It uses a completely new method of starting the Couatl engine: by using an auxiliary "booter" app (similar to what Fenix does), called couatl64_boot.exe, which is what MSFS will start automatically now. This will start the Couatl engine, monitors it and will restart it if required. Windows 8 Compatibility shouldn't matter anymore now.

The feedback we need is:

  • If it always starts with the sim
  • If it's able to restart the Couatl engine during a flight in case it crashes
  • If it doesn't reopen when choosing "Exit" from the right-click menu of the couatl icon in the traybar notification area.
  • If it closes when exiting the sim.

That link doesn't work for me :-((

The edited/new link now works fine - many thanks! 🙂

Just run the Offline installer on top of a normal installation. And don't do an update, otherwise you'll go back to the regular version.

Umberto-

I run all FSDT via Addon Linker. ATM GSX is not chosen to run. How can I still get a Couatl error when closing MSFS? There are a few FSDT airports active…. Any ideas most welcome.

Couatl.exe autostarts with MSFS (like e.g. the Fenix Bootstrapper). You'd have to edit it out from the exe.xml if you didn't want to.

Avsim forum doesn't allow editing a post after a while so, I'm quoting it here, to clarify version 2.9.6 has been released officially now, no need for the Beta installer anymore, just run the normal FSDT Live Update to get all the latest files.

I have been flying all day, making complete flights from start to end, and it seems very stable now. the new couatl64_boot.exe also logs what's happening in %APPDATA%\virtuali so, if you still have issues with it, you might want to report them on our forum or the GSX Channel on Discord, possibly with the log from the new app.

What Discord?  I don't see any link anywhere on the site or the forums.  Thanks.

Edit:  Found it thanks to google.

Updated to 2.9.6 - and running flawlessly now with my Fenix A320 - many thanks!
