October 22, 20241 yr I'm not familiar with any of the tracking devices nor VR but have a couple of questions as I'm intrigued by Tobii in particular: If you're using the eye tracking component in Tobii what happens visually on your display if you glance down to look at to use a PC keyboard? I do use glasses and a studio monitor headset. Would there be any issues there? What do you see as downsides? Thanks TrackIR is rock steady if you are not moving your head, but Tobii view can make small movements. I found Tobii poor when trying to click buttons. When looking backwards, TrackIR head movements remain as you expect. Move your head left, your virtual head moves left. Tobii doesn't recognise you are looking backwards, so when you move your head left, your virtual head moves right. For me, the best option for the Tobii was to disable eye tracking and just leave head tracking turned on. With eye tracking enabled, the view becomes too jumpy and unstable since my eyes are constantly moving. 2. No issue with wearing either glasses or a headset (or both!) 3. In MSFS, when I toggle the head tracking off, my view automatically centres again which I don't want. For example, I'd like to look up at an overhead panel, pause head tracking, manipulate a few switches and then turn head tracking back on. But the MSFS Tobii driver won't let me do that. I can do it in other sims where the Tobii support is done through the external Game Hub app. Other than that, I've very happy with my Tobii and don't miss my TrackIR at all.

There's an Eye tracker which came into beta on Steam recently, called Beam, which I gave the demo a try and wasn't overly impressed as it seemed to not track as well when I wore my glasses. Fact of life I suppose.

I'm curious how that works in comparison with the paid stuff like Tobii. Because if you are just using head tracking, it seems to work pretty well. And give you the option to pause the view so you can flip switches and then return to tracking.

October 22, 20241 yr Thanks for your replies thus far! Do any of you using tracking devices find yourselves ever not using them for one reason or another? What might their downsides be in general over say looking at a 34" 3440x curved display and also a 2nd 1080P smaller display I use for Self Loading Cargo, browser, APL, etc. Also, I'm up and down out of the chair I use fairly regularly, FWIW vis a vis using a tracking device. I actually use my Tobii with a 34" curved ultrawide mo itor and it works great. I also have 2 1080p monitors in front for my instrument panel and another monitor off to the side for navigraph, etc. No problems. As for getting up and walking away, the Tobii handles that like a champ. When I walk away, the view just recenters and sits there until I come back at which point, headtracking just kicks back in. I love not having to have a headset on in order for the tracking to work.
October 23, 20241 yr There should not be any stuttering per se associated w/ Tobii? It sounds intriguing for sure. No downsides? It ls though plenty of work to adjust it to your liking. The biggest advantage for me vs Track IR is that my desk have windows behind and daylight mess track IR up while tobii is very robust and work in any light conditions. P.S. Technical Alpha rendered my tobii completely inop inside MSFS. However, I installed Opentrack and it solved my issues.
