Black Square Duke Released!

I've never seen this (and I don't press "B").

Just a wild guess: Are you setting both altimeters to the same setting? (Now that I write this, I realize I don't know which altimeter the autopilot uses - I would guess it's the left one, but I'm not sure.)

Yup I’m using the magic baro ref key( B) once above 18,000.  To me it appears to be a trim issue because the airplane levels off fine with me hand flying but then once the autopilot is engaged it will pitch up slightly and then level off.  It’s not a big deal but I’d be curious if anyone knows how to do it correctly or if it’s a bug.

  • Guys, just to let everyone know that a few hours ago new official simbrief profiles have been added, for all the dukes they are named BE60, BE6G and B60T https://forum.navigraph.com/t/b60t-s

I'm not totally sure where this information comes from, but that is not accurate. At the core is, the sim does not support hot swapping avionics. We have advised developers against utilizing hot

  • I'd say FlySimWare Cessna 414 if it can't be the Duke.

One difference I can see with what I'm doing is that I've never tried hand-flying the level-off.

If you let the autopilot fly the climb in ATT mode and let it do the level-off, what happens? (When you do this, there's no need to switch to ALT mode yourself - it should do that automatically.)

I’m flying the Duke right now and it’s leveled off perfectly at 12500 feet.  Exactly as it should.  Seems like it was pilot error in the past.

The reason this is worth trying as it fixes previous BS planes as I detailed in a previous post. Was interested if they'd fixed that problem.

I have no idea where you are finding all these errors like your last post too. Nick from Black Square is a real pilot so I'm pretty sure he would have noticed if something so fundamental was not working in every single one of his products for years now, and this has always worked fine for me. I have also had zero problems with Turbine Duke power since the update.

I'm finding them by being diligent and paying detail to minutiae. While others are having fun with a new release I am climbing to ceiling making notes of every sensor and readout in the planes. During my journey from programmer to tech support to it consultant/manager way back when I beta tested for an insurance broker software developer. A very minor code error could cost millions in lost premiums so scanning code and checking every comment (when devs commented code lol) matched up with expected behaviour.

I found the broken mixture behaviour for example in the piston dukes. Almost everyone argued me down despite the evidence. Now they have done a great job of fixing that.

I've found and reported bugs to PMDG with supporting video that have gone unnoticed for years. I'm not a complainer I'm a very positive person and I let most errors slide as if I owned a real life plane with a quirk that I SHOULD get serviced but I live with it.

If someone posts here though about an unusual situation that I have found a reason or a solution for then I will usually speal up.

Wish I could find that previous post as it went into great detail but I own the Baron, Beechcraft and king air and i think they all share the same issue. Easily reproduced.

Oh I also found a major error with distance calculation with WT 530 but haven't reported much yet as want be sure before I do. I have video.

Oh....for some reason I could NOT crash a plane last night with full realism damage on. ON the ground I mean. The Turbine dukes reversers failed on runway with no lights pitch black and i was tired so just decided to wait for the end of flight damage message but it never came. Might be because it was add on airport but I WAS smashing through everything for a mile away. Maybe an MSFS bug.

Also something is messing with parking brakes of certain ac. PMDG 737 will NOT work, 739 does. The Lear jammed couple days ago on startup then worked again after landing. Strange things happen that are NOT normal especially since SU15.

Next leg of my tour of Norway in the piston Duke: Leknes ENLK to Tromsø ENTC:

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/scenic-flight-from-oslo-to-alesund-with-a-surprise-edit-continued-north/642867/8

The way Tromsø is situated on an island in the middle of fjords and mountains, this may have been the most beautiful approach on the trip so far -- and it's not as if there isn't any competition.

@Cpt_Piett @Stoopy

@martinboehme Sounds like you're nearing the end of your Norway adventure? Another great story with stunning images! Tromsø is a very beatiful city, with the nearby Lyngen Alps (Lyngen Alps), midnight sun, aurora borealis - and the picturesque Arctic Cathedral (Ishavskatedralen). I've been there a few times - wouldn't mind living there for a year, despite the dark, snowy, cold winters 🙂

I finally got around to do a short flight in the piston myself - early morning (local time 03:50) from ENSD Sandane to ENAL Ålesund.

I really like setting the lower GTNXi (GTN650?) to terrain display - makes it easier not smashing into mountains when in IFR conditions - which I nearly did several times whilst low-flying over the fjords out west from Sandane!

Highly recommended area to explore in the Duke(s): Start from ENAL Ålesund then use Google Earth or similar for reference. Even better if you have the TDS GTNXi. The piston Duke is such a great sightseeing aircraft - fast enough (but can also go slow), awesome climb rate, looks great for screenshots, nice view through cabin windows. Love it!

Yes I have 2 buttons assigned for passenger wing views. Sublime!

Do you have the 750 map configured for terrain? Just asking as I use THAT for terrain superimposed on route display and the 650 for traffic/nearest airports. Also those 2 are the ULTIMATE in info displays as you can customize EIGHT user fields! I use 750 for route info as it actually HAS the route and the 650 for situational like ground speed/radar altitude/outside temp (so you can set the speed display accurately!) and track. After they fixed the mixture I think the Grand Duke is my fave now. It has speed and power enough for me. The Turbine technically has extra but after you've spent every other minute nursing it to stay within limits without damaging engine it's not that much quicker than the Grand.

@sloppysmusic I haven’t been as creative as you with the 650, great suggestions. The Grand Duke is also my favorite - but still haven’t been higher than 12,000ft or so! Need to check out the updated mixture logic, just keep forgetting…

‘One of these days I’m going to fly somewhere really exotic. Turkmenistan to Mongolia seems like as good choice as any. I’ve heard the mountains of Dagestan look nice. And I’m being serious - this sim is too good not to explore all parts of the world. Not sure if the last sentence made sense. Getting a bit late here. Or rather early 😅

Why not Oregon. The Executor is long sinced bashed into the D star. Make a trip from KTTD to KBOI with the Royal Duke. Its a freeware Troutdale Airport to Boise with Vertical Sim's payware.

Awesome! A true to the core airplane avionics and system enthusiast! Never stop your great work. You help making expensive sim planes more awesome and realistic 👍

Lol true and thanks! I wouldn't call it 'great work' but there's a saying "it's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it". That's me hehe.
