Just Flight do indeed say that you should rerun the installer once SU15 is released, if you were not a member of the SU15 Beta and choose the "SU15 Beta" option at the end of the install process.

 

There are only two features in the Dukes which benefit from Simulator Update 15 (SU15): the ground handling physics and the Working Title GNS 530/430.  Users of other Black Square aircraft are probably already familiar with a bug introduced into the WT GNS GPS in Sim Update 14 that has yet to be resolved.

For this reason, the installers will ask users, "Do you have the MSFS Sim Update 15 Beta Installed?"

YES - The aircraft will be installed with no limitations.
NO - The aircraft will be fully functional with the single exception of the WT GNS 530/430, which will be temporarily disabled.

Users who have already followed the instructions to patch their WT GNS to remove this bug should select "Yes".

When SU15 is released, you can simply re-run the installer, click "Yes", and enjoy the WT GNS without waiting for a product update. For experienced users, these instructions can be used to patch the WT GNS without installing SU15 Beta.

How does one go about getting the black and white transponder panel?  I've seen it in screenshots from Ryanbatc but it's just the green version it's always been with Black Square.  Does it appear black and white with the WT GNS only?

A custom transponder certainly adds some customized style to the royal cockpit. Can I see a screenshot how it looks like please? Maybe I´ll buy one too.

I just had one of my best flights in quite a while, and of course it was in the Duke.

It was just going to be a scenic flight from Oslo to Ålesund, with great weather forecast over the whole region. Just as I was preparing to start my descent, however, a marine layer started moving in to my destination. Ceilings were reported to be right at minimums, and the TAF was suddenly amended from CAVOK to SCT002 BKN015 TEMPO 0500 FG VV002. I had to think hard about what I would do if I had to go missed. Divert back to my planned alternate of Oslo? Try for a second approach, realizing this would force me to go to the closer alternate of Sandane? Would the weather continue to be OK there?

The weather depiction was spot-on: A cloudy soup over the coast, with wonderfully clear weather further inland. As it happened, I ended up breaking out right at minimums, when I was already hair-triggered for the go-around. It was hard to switch my mind back into "landing mode".

On this flight, everything just came together. The wonderful atmosphere that the Duke provides combined with perfect weather depiction and a real challenge that I hadn't been expecting.

Oh wow, that’s awesome! If you had to divert to Sandane, that would be a treat, one of my favorite approaches in Norway.

I think we’re in the middle of another MSFS golden age at the moment, with every new addon creating a mini-paradigm shift. I mean, just in the last few weeks, we’ve got AutoFPS, Active Sky, the Tomahawk (which I’ve got a few hours in IRL), the Dukes, several great ATC addons, SU15 just out of the oven… I’ve also heard rumors of another ATC addon which holds a lot of promise - so it’s a great time to be a simmer 👌🏻

Agreed -- I was almost looking forward to it! And it's not as if there's a lack of competition for scenic and challenging approaches in Norway -- I hugely respect the Widerøe pilots who do these approaches in all kinds of weather.

Yes, there's such a lot of great stuff coming out for MSFS right now. I can only keep up with a fraction of it right now, but I felt like the Dukes were an addon that I had to get -- and I wasn't disappointed, quite the contrary.

Norway and the Duke seem to be a great match, so I've continued my trip northwards from Ålesund. My stop today was Trondheim. Here's the report if anyone's interested:

I'm trying to fly about one-hour legs, so I'm thinking either Mosjøen ENMS or Mo i Rana ENRA if I'm looking for a challenge. I'm just not sure I'll actually pull it off. Sure, the Widerøe pilots can do it... but yikes!

I highly recommend the RNP approach into ENRA. It ends in a visual approach requiring a 90 degree turn towards final (before visual contact with the runway). Hopefully the winds are favourable and you can land at rwy 31,

I also really enjoyed ENMS Mosjøen, ENNM Namsos, ENRM Rørvik and ENST Sandnessjøen. I did a northern Norway tour in the 146-300 a little while ago, starting in ENTC Tromsø IIRC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO77pUPPjnY

All of these airports should be fine in the Duke. Norway got an updated 1m mesh resolution with WU15 (I believe), so the scenery is quite spectacular. I really respect those Wideroe pilots though - making difficult approaches into short runways in all kinds of weather!

Thanks.  Norway is my next stop in the Duke after Iceland in my 4-year long RTW trip that is only now about halfway completed.

I'll definitely do one of those! Hard to decide... but I've flown into ENSH before, and the offset approach in ENLK looks interesting, so I'll probably go for that! I see there's a great freeware scenery, too. 👍

Have fun 😀 Even though these are default airports, the scenery is quite spectacular.
