May 21, 20242 yr I'm still shaking a bit from this! Thought I'd carry on my journey to Nepal from the UK. Today's leg Budapest to Odessa (LHBP-UKOO). All fine and smooth until FSHUD tells me to prepare for different arrival/rway than SimBrief. This is fine! I've plenty of time to enter new ones in FMC. I do so press EXEC and...POOF! plane dead. Engines still OK but no controls except flight ones work so I can't continue to UKOO. OK...i save flight and reload hoping to bring back to life except...the plane's visuals now mirror the actual 'deadness'. It's all gone dark on the flight deck! I'm on a slow glide down and all I can do is use yoke for basic controls. I drop the gear and it works! ok raise it again (so must have some hydraulic pressure left in system?) I bring up Navigraph on tablet and see a nearby airport. Might as well give it a go eh? (Did NOT realise the irony of the ICAO until later!!) I'm obviously too high. Think about passing and turning around but worried with no nav at all I might lose sight of strip. So I circle once. Still looks too far down. Lower gear maybe that will get me down? Ahhh....nope. Can't risk raising it again so it's one more nerve-wracking circle with limited control. This time I think I can do it! Roll left and right to lose energy as too low to circle again. Phew it's a long runway (over 12000ft). Land halfway down apply brakes and they work..just! I stop right at end of runway (of course..) NOW I realise the ICAO LUKK is the most appropriate ever.. May 21, 20242 yr I'd just have quit MSFS and cursed at RSR, respect that you took it as a challenge! 😄 For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Just last night I watched an "Air Disasters" episode where a pilot and crew of a 737-300 for Taca Airlines (I believe) dead sticked the aircraft onto a strip of grass and ground that was a levy in the New Orleans area after both of their engines flamed out due to heavy hail and rain. It was impressive how the crew kept their composure as they dealt with a series of problems and still managed to get a powerless 737-300 safely on the ground with a pretty smooth landing by passenger accounts. The plane was in such good shape that the airline had some test pilots fly it off the levy a few days later after fixing the engines enough to fly it to the closest airport for a more in-depth investigation and overhaul. The pilot and crew that landed it there were lauded as heroes for safely getting it down. It was an amazing story, and one that I had not heard of before. And you just did your own virtual version of that! Awesome! I always have full realism/stress/damage on. If the gear hadn't come down I'd have tried a field too! LUKK was with me: 1) Flight controls worked 2) I started at FL410 3) The nearest long strip airport was VISIBLE from the start 4) The gear worked 5) VFR conditions 😄 if any of the above were absent I'd be just gliding slowly looking for a flat field to suddenly appear. The sim itself still worked and ATC kept giving me headings..wish there was a MAYDAY option. That would be great, vectors please the bubble compass still works! I never quit while there is still hope! Russell Gough SE London

May 21, 20242 yr Regarding aircraft being dead all instruments froze? If so its been mentioned on the PMDG forums and had the issue a few times. Like you also saved the flight since this bug occurred before they released the update to do with the Tcas system causing it but on reloading it. It does not seem to load the aircraft like it use to before. Edited May 21, 20242 yr by carlanthony24

May 21, 20242 yr Piece of cake 😁 that´s how I fly every single approach in my RL flights 😂... jokes apart... do you have failures enabled in the 736? I suspect this was something to do with being a Simbrief loaded flight. For years I preferred choose and enter routes manually but was in a rush used SB. As both arrival and appr were different it was when changing them and clearing disconnects the FMC just hung. Was not a 737 failure. Total freeze of all power ..yes i checked overhead for battery/emergency pwr anything but all dead. When I reloaded flight you can see the GPU cable outside the nose and of course doors open so I suspect it tried to reload start state but all screens dead then. In FSX I scoured the POH/QRHs of all the PMDG planes testing everything out but not in MSFS so far. Still learning the sim itself and other addons. 737 series my fave of all time though. You can do ANYTHING with it, include land it when broken apparently hehe Russell Gough SE London
