June 3, 20242 yr The MSFS development has just started of this small airport located between Los Angeles bassin and 10 miles west of Palm Springs international airport. It’s a single runway 08/26 4,955 by 100 feet asphalt, with some hangars, a fuel island and an FBO. During the summer season, it hosts firefighting helicopters. Unfortunately, the city of Banning has began phasing it out with the approval of FAA releasing the city from its obligation to keep its in operation. Unfortunately I have never stopped at Banning, but I flew over several times connecting the eastern deserts to Los Angeles bassin. KBNG is a challenge for small GA aircraft as it is situated in a huge mountain pass with 10,834’ Mt San Jacinto on one side and the 11,499’ Mt. San Gorgornio on the north side. It is highly recommended to fly early in the morning to avoid strong wind and high temp. Add that the SOCAL Tracon has limited radio and radar coverage inside the pass. If you want to virtually support the MSFS free development, please click the button "Follow" ("I want this too”) on this page https://flightsim.to/requests/sceneries/9778/kbng-banning It will be appreciated, thank you! June 3, 20242 yr Great choice, I’ve also virtually flown over this airport multiple times heading between LA and Palm Springs. It will be nice to stop in for a visit. June 4, 20242 yr It's super sad that so many of these small airports are being phased out. Even well known and iconic airports - like Santa Monica are being shuttered. People knowingly buy a house by an airport and then complain that they don't like the airport. City Hall listens and unfortunately, a wonderful airport and piece of aviation history is being shut down for home prices. If you don't like airports, don't buy a house near one. Thanks for taking this project on. At least we can still enjoy them virtually, thanks to folks like you.
June 5, 20242 yr I’ve landed in Banning. According to some CFIs it’s a great destination to find crosswinds on demand lol Life time flight sim enthusiast, current airplane owner 172P (past C182F).
