Updated Nvidia Driver

Featured Replies

I almost never update my GPU driver if it is working OK, but two weeks ago I started having problems with connecting to the internet on my PC. Restarting the PC fixed it temporarily, but then it happened again the next day. My CLX PC  comes with lifetime tech support, so I called  them explained my problem and after a few minutes, he asked " when was the last time you updated your GPU driver, I told him " never, it is the original driver that came with the 3 1/2 year old PC).. He said, That is probably your problem. Too be honest I had my doubts, but I updated it anyway, and was surprised to see  that fixed it. I love CLX tech support.

Now this morning I started flying the PMDG 737, and noticed the gauges didn't look sharp at all, and I had noticed that before. I went into the graphics settings and saw that when I updated the driver, my anti aliasing had been switched to DLSS Nvidia super resolution  ( I think that is what it said) so I switched it back to TAA, and gauges are now sharp again. 😀

Just as a matter of routine, whenever I update a video driver I double check the Nvidia control panel, Nvidia Inspector and in sim graphic settings. Invariably I will find one or two settings that have been changed. Doing that has saved me lots of time tracking down some glitch after update.

Whilst I update my graphics driver fairly regularly, I usually wait a while after its release to see if it is causing issues for people.  I've not installed the current driver yet as I've not seen a lot of feedback on it.

If anyone is using the latest driver, here might be a good place to comment on your observations especially relating to any performance or quality issues.

The one I just installed is 555.59. Working great so far with around 8 hours of flying, no problems and Good FPS.

I've never ever heard of graphics card drivers affecting connection to the internet, that tech support guy was clutching at very long straws and I'd wager a very high bet it was merely coincidence that the problem fixed itself at the same time.

Well maybe I didn't state the exact symptom. The PC would lock up, and when that happened, I could not access the internet with  the browser, since the browser itself would crash at the same time. I suspected the modem, but he said , no it had to be something in the PC that was crashing and he suggested the GPU driver. As soon as I updated the driver, the problem disappeared.

I always do a clean install and now, unlike the old days the only setting I change is digital vibrance to 54%.

Likewise. I did a PMDG 737 BBJ flight PHNL to NZAA 9.5 hours and no problems at all. For those of you wondering I got out of the seat at TOC and got back in at TOD. The relief crew flew it in between while I was curled up in bed LOL!

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower!

Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-10700 CPU @2.90Ghz, 32GB RAM,  NVIDEA GeForce RTX 3060, 12GB VRAM, Samsung QN70A 4k 65inch TV with VRR 120Hz Free Sync (G-Sync Compatible).

Boeing Thrustmaster TCA Yoke, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, Turtle Beach Velocity One Rudder Pedals.

The new driver is amazing.  I am sure I am getting an extra 1 fps at least, and now wife is making a Sunday Roast for the first time in two and a half years - they never put that in the release notes.  Happy days!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

As I've always used my best home studio work pc for simming (video /audio workstation) I only use the latest studio reference drivers from nvidia for stability over raw speed /beta features. I might get 2 or 3 less fps but the experience has always been smoother in any sim and I can't remember EVER crashing msfs in the 3 or 4 months I've been using it.

I also create a Windows system restore point before updating any drivers but tbh never needed to use it for years using the stable reference drivers.
