Is the updated DLSS file required for a 4090?

Featured Replies

I use DLSS with my 4090, using secondary scaling 2x and DLSS balanced (which is 50% downsample) to give the original resolution and better performance and IMO visual quality than I get with TAA. I also do the equivalent in VR.

Please provide some factual basis for your claim then. In my opinion image quality with DLSS+DLAA is better than TAA.

  • Yes it does matter if you are using DLSS instead of TAA. DLSS is based off AI Machine Learning so the newer the version the more machine learning Nvidia  has done with it. I also have a 4090. I am usi

  • And why do you believe that? Do you understand how AI works? Secondly, I’ve been using each version as they have released and the visual quality and performance have increased as the releases have dro

Last time I tried DLSS I got blurry glass screens in cockpit, but it was a while ago, has this problem been fixed? Btw I have no issues with TAA full Ultra, I even use render scaling at +120 and my fps are around 100-120, so if DLSS would give me better image quality and at least as good performance, I'm interested in trying it.

So try it!

I am set up using DLSS 3.6 with my 4070TiS but I might try 3.7 soon. Not seeing artifacts or blurry glass screens, including the speed & altitude tapes and I recon it is better than TAA (subjective, yes). I have a good 4K monitor and that might make a difference, plus I am using the option to customise the "Ultra Quality" setting in DLSS to 0,80. Native FG and FPS is averaging 100 over detailed, busy airports and complex payware aircraft, AIG, GAIST etc. I use TrackIR, no VR. The ONLY time I see blurring with DLSS is when I scroll the Simbrief flight plan quickly on the flypad. It is insignificant enough to not bother me in the slightest.

Yes @MrBitstFlyer - I would say you should be using it with your 4090. ;-)

how about a before-after screenshot. it says more than a 1000 posts. like we did back then with FrameTime benchmarking.

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

DLSS with DLAA and FG are a winner IMO. Biggest issue for me is that I still have blurry glass cockpit displays. I can’t find a setting that corrects the displays.

DX12 and DLSS with DLAA is 10000 times better than TAA ever was for me, with no blurry displays whatsoever. I would never go back to TAA.

a single screenshot picture comparing before/after is worth more than 10.000 claims before I become a believer.

Why would I care if you believed it or not? Seriously! 🙄

why would  I care if you believed that I cared for a typical unfounded statement without substance and no proof to support a "10.000 times better" post.

On my rig TAA gives shimmering on certain objects.  With DLSS+DLAA I get no shimmering, IQ is sublime.  Really my setup is running so, so well right now.

I have a 4090 and use frame gen but stay with TAA for one main reason....night lighting. No matter what DLSS file you use, the night lighting, be it at the airport or city scenery is significantly dimmer using DLSS than TAA. If that could be solved then yes, DLSS is the way to go but I cannot stand the very subdued and dim night lighting when compared to what TAA shows.

Everyone's machine is different (even those which on paper are identical) so it goes without saying that whatever looks good for you is what you should be using. These settings are all about trial and error. I qualified my statement with for me and even put it in bold and italics but people read what they want to read in forums like this so I'll go back to flying 😉

DLSS vs TAA screenshots won’t show much imo. We are talking about video here. A single frame screen grab from a 100 FPS scene will never prove anything.

I’ve done a few of these in previous threads, not going to repeat it. Biggest drawback with the DLSS+DLAA combo as I see it is ghosting on fast moving numbers (speed tapes etc)

Which I used to see at the very beginning of using it, but not for a very long time. As has been said here and elsewhere, a 4K monitor seems to make a big difference.
