@Ianrivaldosmith has published a guide to getting the best possible performance from the LS application. I was getting frustrated with stutters but those have been eliminated after using his tips.

  • Be aware that the Steam tool might not deliver the expected performance enhancement with P3D V6, because V6 has a similar build-in functionality. From P3D V6 change log: Added Resolution Sca

At first this was a no go for me because of the way it affected my mouse and scroll but they seem to have repaired that issue. I use the settings Ray published in a previous thread and get a double FPS on my 7 year old mid level system. I can get smooth flyable frames in scenarios that would be quite a drag in before.

Consider writing to the author THS and explaining why it doesn't work for your setup. There might be something he can change.

LS works great and that for just a few Euro's. I choose for a 50 Hz refresh rate on my monitor (4K BENQ). My in-game setting is 25 fps and I use FG 2x (so 50 fps). Very happy with this app.

My 4K PD3200U BenQ supports 30 and 60 Hz but I’m not aware 50 is supported. What model do you have?

I have the BENQ EW3270U. The refresh rates to choose from are: 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 Hz.

My first company name was Daytona DVD Inc. (that did NOT age well lol!)

From my ancient video disc production memory 50hz would be great for a UK TV using a PAL DVD player. (25fps progressive/50hz de-interlaced).

Understood. A less expensive model that offers more refresh rates than mine.

TVs have different refresh rates to monitors. Rein2’s is unusual for a monitor.

Interesting! Does this work with any GPU series? Does it work in full screen mode?

1080 upwards. No, you have to be in Windowed mode but when the app is initiated the title bar disappears thereby emulating full-screen mode.

Well yes but... A monitor is just a TV without a receiver, or these days without an OS capable of decoding video streams. People watch television /movie content on them all the time. The 50hz is there for the reasons I mention. Also for HDMI versatility. If you only have a 1.4 cable/system that 50hz will enable 4k to still be selectable at a lower bit rate. Both 50 /60 hz rates on monitors are ONLY those figures because of USA and EURO /ASIAN (worldwide basically) television standards.

Are there clear instructions on how to use it with P3D v5 (including in-sim settings)?

I have a 60hz 4K screen (freesync).

I'm tech savvy but I'll always use an existing template if available to make it work well immediately. I also use a 60 /4k setup.

As in borderless window mode? This is what I want anyway so getting more interested now. Every time i load a flight I get black screen so have to alt enter then right click the p3d icon and select maximise to get the session viewable. BW mode would of course fix this.

I would argue monitors with an ISP display aimed at video / photographic work are of a higher quality than an equivalent sized TV. How many TVs can produce 100% sRGB?

The advantage of a TV is when you want a screen size >32”. Very few quality monitors go larger than 32”.

I wrote this up for someone who didn’t want to ask in public…

Here's what you need to do. Download RTSS from here. Install it to the default location.

Then go into P3D - Options - Graphics and set VSync = On, Target Frame Rate = Unlimited.

Set your Windows Display to 60fps. Right-click Desktop and choose Display Settings. Select Advanced Display half-way down. Choose 60Hz from the drop-down.

Now open RTSS from the System Tray or your desktop shortcut. Start With Windows should be On.

On the right side click on Framerate Limit up/down arrows at set it to 20. Then minimise it. Don't close it.

You don't need Steam running. Open the following folder:-
C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Lossless scaling.

Right-click the LosslessScaling.exe and drag it to the desktop. Release and choose Create Shortcut here.

It has a duck on the shortcut. Open it and set the following:-

Scaling Mode=Auto / Fullscreen

Scaling Type = Off

Frame Generation = LSFG 2.2.1

Mode x3

Performance =Off

Rendering Sync mode = Default

Max frame latency = 1

Draw FPS = On

Capture API = DXGI

Assuming you have a single display Multi-display mode = Off.

With P3D running start the Lossless Scaling executable.

Initially it's off. Go to a busy airport  Press Shift+Z four times to show the fps top left. Confirm it's 20 or close.

Press CTRL+Shift+D to start Lossless generation.

The P3D titlebar will disappear and you should see 20 / 60 in the top left.

If you do all is well. If you don't it's possible that key combo is clashing with some existing setting. I use CTRL+Shift+M.

You can use the key combo to turn it off as I find menu actions work better with it off.

I’m unsure how FreeSync would work with this. I suggest you disable it and have a fixed 60Hz refresh rate.

Yes, no title bar visible. Ideally you should have the Scenario Screen showing as an option so you can easily change aircraft, location or time. It sounds like you’re going straight into P3D. Not ideal as the black screen indicates.
