I don't know if you notice there's a tornado in there in that trailer the tornado it's not it's not canned it happens because we're simulating weather

Tornadoes make their debut, currently available in specific missions with plans for integration into live weather events in the future. The development team is actively seeking reliable data sources to implement live tornado events, adding a new level of challenge for storm-chasing enthusiasts.

So as they said last year at this interview it's not some canned animation or visual affect.. it's actually simulated air flow using same particle/cloud rendering they use for regular clouds/storms and fire smoke probably. But as we suspected it would be hard to pick up in live weather so looks like only available in missions and probably manually configurable weather currently? Will be interesting to see how this evolves.

Glad OP changed the topic title, which was speculative and judgmental before. Let's see where this goes. Not that I have any need for simulated tornadoes. For the type of flying I do they are a very obstructing factor. Don't need them in my virtual world 😁

Cheers, Bert

Working windshield wipers are listed in the article. That's even better news than tornadoes, at least for me.

cheers,

Why is OP always wrong or judgemental while for the businessmen excuses are made?

You're looking at an executive who doesn't work directly on MSFS talking to journalists whose knowledge and interest in Microsoft Flight Simulator is equivalent to that of a newborn in astrophysics.

There's literally nothing to see here.

Do you know the actual history of this before making bold claims like "omgee they are lying!" ?? (and having any personal aversions to execs/businessmen is irrelevant). When the first trailer showed tornadoes in 2023 a lot of folks were wondering if that was just an animation/effect and then Phil later said it is actually simulated.. meaning just like the smoke from the wildfires etc it's not visual effects but more the same tech used to render 3D clouds and their movements over time etc. Just because it is not available in live weather (due to the source weather data not being complete enough) does not therefore mean it's just a gimmick. The tech is there in the core sim to render/simulate them, so once reliable source data is found they can also be depicted in live weather.

It's utterly amazing the things people choose to bitterly complain about

Tornadoes are extremely rare in any given location and even if there is one, you wouldn't be flying anywhere near it.  I could care less about tornadoes in the sim but hope to be able to finally dodge some CB's.....although I have yet to see a shot of one yet in any previews....

Yup. There are genuine complaints like late object pop-ins, server lag & FPS drop, poor ATC engine.

Then there are the complaints based on misunderstandings (deliberate or otherwise) like career mode gamefication/removal of free flight mode, or how MSFS isn't a flight simulator because it's not a Level-D one.

Some folks seem geared towards focusing on what's wrong, what's missing, what it should have been, and so forth.  I thank my lucky stars I am oriented to see what's right, what's there, what is and what may well come.

Just proving my point. You are one of the interviewers and journalists covering for them. Clearly biased. I'm not interested in marketing. I only care what we as customers are getting.

Look, it's not my fault if the truth is inflammatory. They decided to play this card and now are upset when people like me call their bluff. They used dynamic simulated tornadoes as one of the reasons a new paid title was required due to advances in weather simulation. Now we are back playing semantics again on what they meant. Come on, enough is enough.

A grumpy simmo (according to Jorg Neumann)

It's hard enough to predict tornadoes in real life let alone a game using live weather, seeing as they've struggled to predict thunderstorms in MSFS2020 would you really expect tornadoes in live weather in MSFS24? That's asking way too much and I don't blame them for only having them in special scenarios, if we could get them in presets that would be cool though.

They said the weather advanced to a point that they required a new title. Now it turns out advances in weather were minimal. Basically selling us the same product again with added canned stuff.

Don't buy it then, your choice.
