I am pretty sure that limitless is a placeholder, to be replaced at release time..  I see it here too, but I doubt it will remain beyond Tuesday.

yep seem strange, we'll see tomorrow, as soon as someone can test this let me know, well hmmm .. in the first hours of msfs2024 there's probably a lot of things to try without even thinking about AL 😁😁

Hi, in my AL properties, i have not tab Shortcut? thanks

Not sure if i understand correctly, but the shortcut tab appears when you right click and choose 'Properties' on the AL shortcut (not on the EXE). But really, don't worry about that shortcut thing, i'll publish a new version (new EXE) with MSFS2024 support and you will just need to use that one.

Oh wow! For me this would make things so much easier to test my addons for MSFS2020 in MSFS2024. Just one click to link an addon to either the MSFS2020 or MSFS2024 Community folder. That thought then begs the question, can an addon be linked to both Community folders simultaneously?

oooops, sorry, i probably wasn't clear 😱😔, what i've done for now is a separate exe (MSFS_Addons_Linker_2024.exe), if you launch that one you will be able to setup your 2024 settings, the other EXE (that same you already have) will continue to work with v2020. So both are completely separate and one will not touch anything in the other sim so no it will not create links in both sims at the same time for now. I never even thought about that, i thought users would want something separate (you can obviously use the same custom addons folders if the addons are compatible for both version) but, for the community folders, each version will take care of its own and not touch the other. Well, it's only Day -1 ... i can update things depending on what people want/need once we learn to use both sims at the same time.

i have released the new version on fs.to ... 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

we'll see tomorrow evening (during the day i'm at work so that's why i release it already a bit in advance if people need it as soon as msfs2024 is released although i guess the few first explorations will be addons-free 😁).

I'll probably come back here tomorrow evening to bug you about the ms-store version to see if it can be launched via AL or if I need to change that 'package folder' 😱.

Thank you all as always for your support and enjoy the new sim ! 🍻 ❤️

Thanks for the huge improvement you have made to the 2020 experience with Add-Ons Linker.  And thanks for your continuing dedication.

Hi Bad_T, having downloaded the new version of AL but before I install, do I overwrite the MSFS_Addons_Linker folder that was installed for MSFS 2020?

Thanks

Martin

If you have ideas or remarks about all this or if something is not clear, let me know, thank you. 🍻

My idea would be connecting addon linker with fs.to. The tool would not just link downloaded addons like before, but would be able, to get and install the packages from the cloud (i.e. fs.to) dynamically (i.e. as the user demands). There could be a simple screen, where the user is entering the planned route and the tool cares for the rest, like propose a set of addons like airports, landmarks, sceneries... The user would confirm the addons he wish, the tool would download and store in the addonlinker folder, create the shortcuts and start the sim.

Managing updates for the downloaded fs.to packages would be another great extension.

Maybe the addonLinker dev can pair with the fs.to publishers to create something like that?

I believe you have to remove the old folder and just put the new one in any other or the same location, do not overwrite. Your settings are stored elsewhere, so you will not lose those. I think it is noted in the “Readme”. That is what I have been doing for all updates with no problems. That seems to be the safe way to do it anyway.

To complete the MSFS Community Folder location in Options I have to wait for MSFS2024 to in stall to know where that is. Also, do I just transfer over the 2020 presets to 2024 and choosing the FS version as it will be MS store it shows MS Store / DVD, but I do not have a DVD, unlike 2020.

@sauviat  yes just extract the new zip over your old installation and everything will be ok, like @TomCYYZ said it's even better if you remove the old folder containing the program and extract the new files in the same location. And yes obviously, to set the msfs2024 community folder you need to have MSFS2024 installed 🙂 ... also the version 'MS Store / Dvd' just means 'if you have the ms-store OR the dvd version' so select that one if you have the ms-store version. You can transfer presets but i would wait a bit, starts slowly by configuring everything and making sure your addons work for 2024, otherwise you'll have presets that will enable stuff that might not work well with 2024.

Feel free to let me know if you have more questions.

I'm only on 13% Activating Packages, so will be sometime yet before doing the Options. I did delete theold folder and good to see 2020 and 2024 separately.

Hello and thank you for your feedback.

Yeah what you say there would obviously be the perfect thing but it's not really possible at the moment. The fs.to data is not accessible to the public, there are no public API to access the data and if there was it would probably be abused (well you know how humans are don't you) ... so i dont think they will ever do that with their goldmine site. Downloads are even protected by captcha to limit abuses and there are i think advantages for paying members, so i don't really see how they would allow an external app to access their stuff and bypass all that. It's a great site so it's undestandable they want to protect their data, i would probably do the same.

So yeah only way would be a close cooperation with them but i don't really see it happening, they might even do their own things to manage addons in the future if they see some possible benefits in doing so.

For the automatic selection of addons based from a flightplan, there is maybe a possibility even without fs.to. In the map of AL, the addons are located by longitude/latitude and it's also possible to load a flightplan from simbrief. So yeah manybe if I can figure out a little algorithm (i'm not mathematician 😱) that selects all addons based on the flightplan route within a certain range, it would then be possible to enable them all at once without user intervention. It's something i had already thought about in the past and would like to implement.

woops i don't have the sim yet and i don't have the ms-store version so i can't really help you with that, but there are specific threads on this forum and on the official one to speak about the community folder location, you'll probably find what you need there. Sorry for not being able to reply directly, but for me msfs2024 is still a bit of a mystery (haven't installed it last night after reading of all the issues but i'll probably try a bit later tonight).

Hopefully they haven't made it too unfriendly like i have read around (not sure why sometimes devs do things that they know people will just hate like forcing the c:\ drive if they really did, especially for a software that will generate trillons of revenues 😁)  ...  but well i haven't seen anything yet so i really can't comment for now because i don't even know what's true or not in all i've read but sometimes it sounds a bit scary in some of the decisions they made (like if i understood correctly streaming the planes, i saw vids where the planes where rendered incompletely and things like objects/trees appearing only when 10 meters in front of them, really really weird) .. but well yeah all this will be forgotten in a few months 🤞.

🍻

edit : little note about the v2024 version of AL, if someone is colorblind, can you tell me if the difference of icons between the 2 EXE is noticeable, i just inverted the colors but maybe for you it won't be good enough to distiguish the 2 versions. I guess no one colorblind will read this but in case ......

Start the sim.  Go into Marketplace. Click on I believe its the Library tab.  Then click Community.  Then click the small gear in the upper right corner of that window.  The smaller gear in that window.  Not the larger gear in the upper corner of the screen.  It should then show you the path to Community on your system. For my system here is the path:
