2024 performance with same 2020 settings

Featured Replies

I’ve seen mentioned that 2024 performs better than 2020.

So, if I use the same settings in 2024 am I likely to get the same or better performance?

Many thanks,

Ben

I think we are going to have to wait for the released version before we know the answer to that one Ben.  I'm guessing that the new version will be making best use of the newest harware, so if we use ultra settings on 2020, I would imagine we may only be able to use high on 2024, but we are just going to have to wait and see.

Flightsims mostly run pretty well out of the box and it is all the addons we use that seem to destroy the performance.

Problem here is that MSFS2024 comes with a lot of new settings and features. It may perform better if you manage to set up both sims the exact same but the question is if that's possible. Like MSFS2024 comes with raytracing for shadows. And it has a lot more mesh detail (in places). So even though MSFS2024 might perform better when measured in a 'technical testing environment' your fps may be lower still due to all those new options. Of course fps would be even lower if 2024 did NOT perform 'better' out of the box.

In short: 2024 performs better but that doesn't mean you will get a higher fps.

But as cianpars siad: time will tell.

For what it's worth, when first running the tech alpha it recommended to use ultra settings with my system. I have good faith performance of the final release will be excellent.

Cheers, Bert

I'm not sure that a direct comparison will be possible. Multi-threading performance will be increased but so is quality of the scenery so they might cancel each other out.

I've been tempted to get a VR headset for a while, so I'll be interested to see how that performs in 2024.

MSFS 2020/2024 "MUST" be on your C or main boot drive for it to work:

Where does it state or say that?   What I thought is it must be on a direct storage supported drive.

I just read that BitLocker (encryption) would reduce Direct Storage performance, so it does seem very unlikely the sim must be installed on the encrypted OS drive.

The alpha version didn't.

As for the final version, we will know only after the 19th.
