Thanks for posting that mate - Some interesting analysis in there that does seem to point to the V-Cache not being as effective (if effective at all??) on 2024. It would have been nice if they had tested a non-V-Cache AMD 9000 series chip as well to do a real comparison around V-Cache.

Hmmm. Well that certainly muddies the waters somewhat in deciding about what cpu to put in a new system.  Guess it may come down to how long 2020 will be kept as the 9800X3D does have a big advantage there.  It would also be nice to see how the 16 core AMD parts perform.

It might simply be a GPU limitation cause. We will see if it stays like this over time.

It would be nice to have a measure of GPU usage so we can tell if the FPS is limited by the GPU or the CPU.  The chart (in the same Tom's Hardware article) for 1920x1080 TAA Medium shows the 9800X3D at 197 FPS, the 7800X3D at 165, and the 13900 at 143 FPS.

Most serious CPU test people are quite adamant that CPU comparisons must be done at lower GPU resolution to ensure the CPU speed is not confounded with the GPU thruput.

It may all be a moot point since I have been unable to purchase an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D since trying hard from the initial sales day to now.  I have several web sites feeding me text messages when their robot finds one for sale - but I am always too late to make the purchase.

When we'll know for sure, what CPU is better for MSFS? I preordered the 9800x3D but won't received until next year. SInce I am also using my computer for video editing etc an intel would fit better. I am know wondering if it's worth buying the AMD all together and miss the cores of the intel that I would need to productivity work.

You can... Windows Task Manager as well as NV Inspector will show you GPU loading percentage.

One has to laugh when reading some of the hoaxes posted here.

First, only the 1080p test (shown below) makes any sense when comparing CPUs, and this is also clearly explained in the referenced article.

Second, consider their testing scenario: "Our benchmark sequence uses the Ísafjörður landing challenge under the 'Epic' settings. But we're not even trying to land — we're just flying over the water in the same path each time." Flying over water, presumably with a default airplane, no photogrammetry, no complex airport, no complex aircraft like the Fenix that would actually tax the CPU.

And yet, despite this limited scenario, the results still show a strong advantage for the 9800X3D. That’s actually surprising and impressive—I’m ordering one soon!

Are these ULTRA settings? I ordered an 9800x3D but (from a i9-10850k) but I am wondering if this is really an upgrade or waste of money for FS24? I also do video/photo editing etc, but wouldn't to pay more as for the 9800x3d, shoud I keep or look for something else?

I found a 9800X3D under the Christmas tree 🙂 I’ll report back soon!

As for the diagram from the referenced test, it states "Medium", which makes sense – at ULTRA, even an RTX 4090 at 1080p could start to bottleneck in MSFS24. That’s fine, though, since the sim’s lifespan will likely see the introduction of the RTX 6000 series GPUs 😉

Yes one does have to laugh...when the thread title is "MSFS2024 - 9800x3D or 14900k?"...yet nowhere in the attached performance graphic do I see a 14900K listed.

I also think there is something suspect in that it shows a fair bit better performance with 7900XTX/13900K than 4090/13900K - I don't believe that. I can't find a single benchmark showing the 7900XTX outperforming a 4090.

Yea that struck me as quite odd as well.
