November 25, 20241 yr the biggest problem with gpu in msfs is the vram usage is crazy how hight even a hybrid medium-high settings on a 8gb vram on busy airport get destroy while in msfs 20 with dx12 was very hard to go over 8 vram with fenix AI traffic atc ini build KJFK at same time in high settings Edited November 25, 20241 yr by michdb8
November 25, 20241 yr This is a good thing. Thanks to the multi-threading in this game, the CPU is no longer a bottleneck at high resolution with maxed out setting. The GPU is now the bottleneck, which is why the sim feels so much smoother than 2020. This means that upgrading your GPU (especially to a 5090) will have a massive positive effect on performance.

A 5090 is likely to cost $1,800 - $2,000 dollars, it better make a positive impact. Problem is, you don't have to be at high resolution and maxed out settings to have a GPU bottleneck...

In MSFS 2020, it wouldn't make any impact at all when on or near the ground, depending on what you are upgrading from. The sim was insanely CPU limited in that scenario.
November 25, 20241 yr Author I did wonder, if that’s the case my step up would be a 4090 24gb but I think even they’re very pricey still!!!!
November 25, 20241 yr The specific GPU usage of 99% has nothing to do with actual heavy work process. Its happening when you return back to main menu while flying or focus on other applications. I will check if this has to do wtih FG and G-sync. November 25, 20241 yr I let Nvidia limit the frames to 30 fps on my 4060 Ti. At 2560x1440, I have almost all settings on Ultra except clouds and the shadow resolutions, which are one step down from max. GPU runs around 75-80% in most of the UK, reaches about 85-97% in London depending on the weather. Both LODs are set to 100. Pushing those two values up to 125 put the GPU up to 99%, which will usually result in stutters for me, so I'll keep them at 100. My 13600KF runs about 18-22%. Frames never drop below 30. I never thought I could enjoy 30 fps, but it's smooth, not a slideshow. Then again, I'm flying the X Cub at low speeds. Not sure what those low frames will look like if I ever buy a warbird. It will have zero effect in my house, because there is no way that I will ever pay an extortionate amount of money for a graphics card. November 25, 20241 yr Yup, I need to set a 60 or less limit or my GPU is near saturated at 100% the whole time.
November 25, 20241 yr Why are people concerned about high GPU usage? This sort of thing is very common in other games. This won't hurt your GPU, I assure you. If you've got proper cooling, then the GPU will operate at peak performance without issue. If you do not have proper cooling, then the GPU will downclock to remain below its maximum safe temperature, so you may lose some performance. But in either case, it will not harm your GPU. There is nothing to worry about.

There is nothing to worry about. Because its working on 100% with out any demanding task or process. Imagine if you let you pc for 3 hours while you pause your flight and return to main menu. Its going to be 3 hours with 60-70c temp continuously + 80-90c on hot spot temp. This is a clear bug that Asobo need to fix, like they did on 2020.
