Help Keep Little Navmap for MSFS 2024

Help Keep Little Navmap for MSFS 2024

If you would like to keep Little Navmap alive, you might “upvote” the effort by Alex Barthel (Little Navmap’s author) to get the program access to unencrypted airport data. Apparently, in the release of MSFS 2024 those data are encrypted when they were not restricted in MSFS 2020. (The information now lies in the cloud rather than on the user’s own PC.) Any single vote won’t by itself make a difference. But if all the users act, then maybe MS-Asobo will respond. (At this posting, the current “vote” total is 723. Surely there are thousands more Little Navmap users who would be happy to have LNM available for MSFS 2024.)

To upvote the request, go to the MSFS Forum here.

For the moment, it is possible for users use Little Navmap in MSFS 2024 by using their installed MSFS 2020 library or by laboriously importing (payware) Navigraph data. (Eventually, we will not longer have MSFS 2020 installed. And Navigraph is an expensive and imperfect solution.) Alex is working on a difficult utilization of SimConnect data. But even if he succeeds, that will make things more difficult and less effective for individual users.

Asobo may not have a simple ready solution. But it would be helpful if they tried to solve the problem. After all, maintaining and facilitating user and developer access to their data will further the goal of “For the Community, with the Community.”

What do you think?

I suspect this will also impact JoinFS as it is unable to scan for models as it stands,

Voted. I use LNM on every flight. I import my Simbrief routes to it to better understand the SID/STAR options. I also use if for any VFR flights.

It will be a sad day if FS2024 encryption means it ceases to exist for MSFS.

Mike,

first thing I did once I'd started and actual flight in 2024 was fire up LNM to then find it wasn't working. Next thing I did was upvote that request. Given that most of my flying is extrememly low and slow and just exploring the world LNM is something I'll really miss.

Not sure what you mean by your second comment quoted above. Given that I don't care at all about Navigraph data, I just want to see a map, it sounds like I could maybe use LNM exactly as before, but do yhou have any details or a pointer to how to do this?

cheers

@andy1252 as a workaround, you can still use LNM with FS2024 if you still have FS2020 installed and LNM is still using the FS2020 scenery files. Simply start FS2024 and then start LNM. It will connect to FS2024 but use the FS2020 scenery.

Far from ideal but at least, for now, it works.

@Vel, thanks for that. Don't know what I did initially, but it certainly works and does all I need. I don't remember, but maybe I just went straight to the LNM site (or maybe the .to entry) or something and saw that it wasn't compatible and the note about the upvote and then never even actually tried it!

Yeah we have exactly this problem with our VA online flights atm. Funnily all in 2024 with running joinfs see the matching planes of other 2024 users doubled in sim if you don't set to ignore but 2020 pilots won't be injected as there is no default model. So general simconnect is working fine.  2020 pilots though see both 2020 and 2024 and can substitute accordingly if needed.

Main problem seems to be that 2024 is not recognized as a 2020 clone but called "SunRise" and therefore prob doesn't know what to scan for. Sadly I don't have high hopes to get an update on joinfs.

Cheers T.

Altough I would like Little Navmap to continue its support now for MSFS2024, in my opinion Navigraph is an excellent solution and its cost is proportional to the high quality of services that it offers.

My personal thanks to everyone for your taking the time to help save Little Navmap. Not sure what will happen, but at least this item is on the Microsoft-Asobo radar screen.

Just out of curiosity - FSHud 2.0 was just released for MSFS2024 too (at least I got a update button in my version). Does the 2024 version include the Airport diagrams and if yes - where are these data from?

Shouldn’t you ask the developer of FSHUD? This topic is about littlenavmap.

Glad to see we got their attention. I am thankful for another version of MSFS however, It baffles me how they over looked that.
