Most publishers like to be keeper of the Jira as it is called.

Yes, a lot of companies I’ve worked with use JIRA, can’t stand that web app … never seems to be configured correctly for efficiency and too much guess work in filling out fields.  Can’t tell you how many times I’ve reported issues that went out to the void requiring follow up only to be told oh you didn’t select the correct option … so nobody passes it along to the correct group or gets back to me??

I am not really surprised about this. Of course it's a business relationship, based on a defined feature-set and a defined time frame. So many desirable features are left out from the beginning or may

You didn't answer my question.  The MSFS team added a lot of functionality to the SDK to allow PMDG to release the 737 for MSFS. Does that mean every contractor Microsoft hires has to produce a PMDG level aircraft?

Well, in my opinion there is a certain standard, and that certainly includes implementing basic functions in the best possible way. We can certainly spend hours discussing whether wiping wipers actually belong to such a standard, but at some point these discussions become silly.

this is why as an Old Sod (trademarked 2024) I prefer to get briefings from my exec producer and producers telling me in plain English the upshot of where we are at 🙂

I would like windshield wipers working on all the planes that came with MSFS 2024 too. Who wouldn't? That said, I don't hold the MSFS team responsible for not having windshield wipers working on all the planes that shipped for MSFS 2024 because they never promised this.

And without a source to what Jorg actually said because nobody has provided such a source, it leads me to believe that Jorg was referring to the new SDK feature that allows 3rd party developers to finally get windshield wipers working in MSFS 2024 without having to code a workaround.

The difference is in the wording: 1st party developers are not working WITH Asobo, they are working FOR Asobo.

More accurately, Asobo works for Microsoft, and contracts out these small companies as subcontractors for Microsoft under Asobo product management. I’m certain no money is being exchanged through Asobo.

Spend is likely determined by the MS PM, and Jorg as the contractor PM is likely the one making the dollars and cents decisions.

Apparently working windshield wipers were not specifically called for in the contract between MS and IniBuilds.

But would Ini be prohibited from adding them to their current MSFS2024 lineup “gratis” (without charging additional development costs to MS) or are they contractually prohibited from adding any additional features to the product that MS did not specifically ask for - even if they do it for free?

I think that's a legal question that can't be answered without knowing the details of the contract. After all, the delivered "aircraft" (software package) is probably a precisely described contractual item and, depending on the contract, may also have become the property of MS.

I believe that if there was a corresponding wishlist item with enough votes in the official forum, MS would have no problem commissioning the "wiping wipers", even at their own expense. Jorg Neumann can be accused of many things, but he is certainly not petty in such matters. In the end, something like this shouldn't play a big role in the grand scheme of things.

It’s really a money thing, it developing the particle effects costs $5,000, somebody is going to pay iniBuilds for it.

your point is well taken, though, it could be in the contract that they can’t independently develop without a commission from Microsoft. It would make sense to prevent first party developers from turning it into an enhanced payware offering without MS approval.

Or another scenario is a full featured “payware” version will be released in the future.

Whats all the fuss about wipers?   Don't you all know that MSFS aircraft all come with a special technology like "Rain-x" as a water repellent feature.   Thats why I can still see without actually wiping the window, while still or low speeds. 😉😆The physical wiper is just there for show.

Maybe I'm naive, but I thought, 1st party developers develop their addons as best as they can with all bells and whistles. But in the end, its just contract work and what won't get paid wouldn't get delivered.

There's no "maybe" about it. 🙂

Nobody works for free, or they can't eat or pay rent.

It's as simple as that.
