BATC Traffic coming to all users imminently

I enjoy the premium voices.  With the release of AI traffic I’ll try leaving myself and ATC as premium and all traffic as basic and see how fast I run through my credits given that ATC will be saying a lot more now.  If it ends up driving up my costs too much then I’ll switch to all basic, they get the job done and are still miles ahead of default ATC voices.

A question for those who have already been using traffic, it’s suggested to use traffic level 5, however real world traffic levels are 10.  Is BATC able to generally handle traffic at 10 or is it best left at the recommended 5?

Yes. for 10. The FPS hit is minor, but expect traffic jams on the ground. I ran KDTW for an hour last night with 10 for arrival, departure and enroute, and it ended with a traffic mess. Still plenty of work ahead for developers in this area.

  • I love the progress. Keep in mind it's only half a year old. They've come a long way since the beginning

  • I can vouch for the BATC traffic, it's nice. It can use FSLTL, AIG and FSTraffic models if you have any of them installed.

Yes, it all has pros and cons. At the same time - if you're at an airport scenery that does not reflect real life (try KORD and report back) you will see aircraft taxi in the grass where taxiways have

You can use 10 but at busy airports it pushes the sim and BATC to its limit. I generally leave parked at 10 and the other three sliders around 8. Tried flying into EGLL yesterday with 10 and whilst it was cool to see a neverending chain of arrivals it was very hard to get a word in as there was just so much communication on the frequency.

Yes, with 10 it's destined to end at some point. Too sad.

My flight was into Honduras, set traffic at 5 and as I launched BATC there was a good minute or so before I could get a word in - that was with about 4 aircraft on frequency - can imagine somewhere busy could be challenging. That said I remember back when you came out of time acceleration with Radar Contact and it would talk to everyone before you could get a word in. Looking forward to trying a full flight with it without the FSLTL injector running this time though !

Haha wow - I wasn't expecting that in Honduras. I haven't found time acceleration to cause any issues with BATC as it just keeps running at normal time. As long as you go back to 1x at a reasonable distance to the airport (i.e. TOD) you should then get the accurate traffic for that time at your destination.

I know, there was one just taking off as I went to tower as well. So that was quite a change from it normally being just me in the sky.

Tend to stay away from time compression these days, only gets used if I miscalculate or need to finish a flight early. So mostly not a problem.

Vectors and descent seemed better in the new version, also runway choice logic seemed to change - old version gave me 04 new version 22, heavy tailwind for 22, but no procedures for 04 and no circling at night (guessing BATC doesn't support that anyway though).

You should check out EGLL with all sliders at 10. I landed on 09L and just like the real EGLL I had to vacate as soon as I could and the aircraft behind me was touching down just as I had fully left the runway with 3 further aircraft spaced out properly on final behind it. Quite the experience, but I couldn't get any word in. The separate Traffic Map for BATC was just a big blob of aircraft. I've gone back to set the slider to 8 after that but it's cool to see anyway.

I get really weird reclearance of STAR, it just gives me a new STAR without a route from the last waypoint to the new STAR. Does not feel very realistic, should I just fly VFR with a Airbus for a while?

Now I am at FL360 and expect to descend to 3000 feet in 3 nm

Beyond Atc has no idea where I am in the air.........................

Now get landing clearance from the tower while still at FL360

Not sure I'm brave enough for EGLL, might give EGPH a run though. Not unusual on a clear night to see one landing with another 3 queued up behind it...

... probably start at 5 though and see how my PC handles somewhere busier than Honduras..

I don't understand why you would set traffic to 10, or max, on any AI traffic manager. I set mine on 2 or 3, and it works perfectly, with no log jams of traffic.

Do you have an example? I've had a few reclearances enroute usually due to a weather related runway change but it generally tends to pick a compatible STAR as most airports have subsets for different runways which should use the same entry points. Have you tried asking for a heading to you next fix in that case and what does BATC say?

Because we can! It's a bit much for me at 10 but it's fun to see nonetheless as you get a very authentic traffic experience especially at large airports. Even if it's just to see what BATC can do. For day to day flying I prefer lower values but that's the beauty of having options so each user can choose to their liking.

Yes: UHPP SAMI4L SAMIK T577 UB G583 MVE V8 BEEBA V1 KURIS NAGANN RJCC

Then I get recleared KAOR YA ILS 19L

But how do I get there? Via VFR?

And why does it not know at which Flight level I am? I am asked to switch to tower for landing clearance when at FL360.
It just does not know at which altitude you are, the tower gives landing clearance it does not matter how high you are.

I was a BETA tester and really involved from day one, but stopped doing that after first release because it looked a little bit to much like real work. And did not have so much time. Anyway I was hoping after trying again after long period of time like many of this bugs would have been better.

But anyway will try again another flight and see if that goes better..............

Well, I have finally come to compromise that in its current shape and form BATC is very well suitable for midsize airports with 10 set for active traffic. For that purpose EFHK, ESSA, ENGM, ESGG, EBBR, LOWW, EDDH, LSZH, LEBL, BIKF, EIDW, EGPF would be my choices. And there are beautiful sceneries for these airports in FS2020.

Large hubs? Not yet at 10.

Because we like jams, Bob.
