some $ 70 one time payment for TDS plus $ 100,- Navigraph chart subscription, i.e. $ 100 every year ($ 170 initial cost.)

It appears the Jeppesen charts are of such low resolution, they only look ok and readable on the TDS website screenshots at a huge size that no one has in their virtual cockpit, let alone in VR.

are they still using low resolution Jeppesen bitmap charts in the TDS instruments? (at least this is how I remember it from the Jeppesen GPS trainer they were using), and as it still seems in the TDS screenshots. vs. high resolution LIDO vector charts. or does TDS now also use high resolution vector charts in their panel?

otherwise it is "YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!! " for the free default LIDO charts in MSFS 2024.

Thank you for offering us the opportunity to clarify the technical details of the TDS GTNXi Pro charts:

We have studied the resolution very in depth before releasing the TDS GTNXi Pro so we can be confident that our offering matches the real life units. In addition, the TDS GTNXi Pro offers geo-referenced charts as overlays in the map page, this is an exclusive feature of the GTNXi, allowing pilots to fly an approach and view the chart overlay on the ma, this is yet another exciting feature that the TDS GTNXi Pro offers to its users!

Below is a screenshot of the ARNEM departure plate at EHAM, at full zoom. The internal chart resolution is 2500x2007 pixels and this is exactly what the TDS GTNXi Pro displays! Based on our internal testing, the Navigraph charts are double the resolution of the already provided Flitecharts. Through this we would like to thank Navigraph for the very high resolution of the charts being offered!

Through this we want to let the users know that at TDS Sim Software we strive for 100% realism of our products, so we can provide an excellent product, thus ensuring users that if they go the TDS Sim Software route, they have made the best choice!

I'm getting a really dark display on the GTN. Can hardly see it

We have responded to your support requests in our official support forum:

"Dark screens are a bug of MSFS 2024 and not the actual gauge. This occurs during the day, during the night the screens display correctly.
Some aircraft developers have fixed this issue internally.

For example: A2A have issued a patch for the Comanche which can be found in their Discord.
FSW as well issued a patch for their C414 and LJ35 on the same issue.

We suggest checking the respective Discord channels, applying the patches.

if you are having issues with other add-on aircraft, please specify the aircraft so we can see where to point you for the fix. "

Is there a documented set of steps?

Hello Bert,

There is a developer post with some good information on this. From what we understand from FSW, it involves setting the EMISSIVE_CODE XML properties of the LCD surface.

Please refer to this post on Devsupport, an example being provided by MariopilotPD808

Getting errors installing.

Keeps saying partially installed, but then it says successfully installed. But it still says partially installed

Hello Ron,

As has been stated above, please download and run the latest TDS GPS Manager. In addition, the TDS GTNXi or any of its components should not be running in the background. We would suggest a PC reboot as safe measures. In case you are still having issues, please contact us via Discord/support forum and we will gladly help.

the Navigraph charts are double the resolution

thank you Tiberiu.

your screenshot is very detailed and clearly readable because it is much larger than what I would expect in a typical virtual cockpit, let alone in VR.

we are talking $ 170 here vs. totally free. with another $ 100 for charts year after year, even if I would be more than happy to keep the outdated charts from my initial purchase, I won't need the yearly updates just for flight simulation.

I would appreciate if there was a limited TDS test edition, lets say time limited or Navigraph charts just for a single airport. that would answer all my questions and help to evaluate and compare readability of TDS vs.  the new FAA/LIDO chart implementation in MSFS2024. just like there is a free demo version of the Garmin GPS trainer.

The subscription is totally understood, but we are not the ones who handle Navigraph subscriptions, we merely use them.

Unfortunately there is no demo availability for Navigraph charts, such features should be requested from Navigraph, sorry that we can't offer much, but it is not our company.

From the TDS side, we still support the North American region FliteCharts, which you can preview with the free GPS Trainer.

To add to this post, less than one year ago, the community consensus was that updateable navdata/ charts were impossible in the GTNXi or similar products, yet we have been able to get both of them working exact as has been requested through the years, we find this innovation and we will strive to continue on this path!

At any rate, we take navigation seriously at TDS Sim Software and within the confines of the real GTNXi product, we will strive to provide the best possible integration.

I am familiar with the Garmin Trainer's low resolution bitmap charts, but I was asking for a demo version of the TDS GPS with vector charts instead, which I am sure Navigraph would not have a problem with providing you a single chart for a demo version, but from  your reply I take it there are obviously no plans, unfortunately.

For years, many of us used RealityXP for our Garmin GA needs in P3D.  While excellent products, the number one complaint was always that the database was not upgrade-able and would get wildly out of date.   Just to offer a different perspective from what's been expressed here, I cannot thank TDS enough for breaking through the barriers and making an update subscription possible in MSFS for the Garmin trainers.

Note that for those who already use the excellent Pro version  in 2020 there is no upgrade fee.  It will cost many of us nothing to move our Garmins to 2024.  While I understand the concerns expressed by some who use the base version, I can also easily understand the decision to port only the latest version to 2024.  It's not like TDS is taking an unreasonable position, or attempting to gouge their established base, and the upgrade price is reasonable.

For those concerned about the Navigraph costs, keep in mind that if you don't require the latest database you can always subscribe for a month and then drop, and then repeat this process some time down the road so your database doesn't get too far out of date.  You do not have to commit to a full year - or any other time frame for that matter - if you prefer not  to.

Sorry for butting in with a contrary view, but I hate seeing what I feel is TDS' greatest strength portrayed as a net negative.  I'm not trying to negate anyone's concerns - just balance them a bit.  For me, the availability of database updates at reasonable cost for our Garmin's is a true blessing.  I know many others agree.

Since there isn't a demo version, can the GTNXi be dragged to a 2nd monitor in VR and work?  Popping out the default GPS in 2020 can be dragged to a 2nd monitor but the screen is blank or just doesn't update.  The reason I'm asking is I use a mixed reality setup.

I9-9900, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3090 FTW

Happy Days.  Updated my TDS manager, easily paid my $26 upgrade fee from the Base 2020 version and huzzah, I see the familiar TDS splash screen as MFS2024 is loading....here comes some great flights in the Baron, Duke and Lear 35A again!

My immediate feedback is that it would be great if I'd gotten an email notification about this update as an existing user, if it hadn't been for @tamsini's post here I wouldn't have known about it.  Otherwise appreciate the support!

Second feedback: I wasn't able to start a flight even after rebooting, so read up on the TDS support forum and did the reboot, run TDS Manager as admin then reinstall thing, and after one more reboot for good luck everything seems groovy now.

Correct... I just paid my $26 upgrade fee and got my GTN750Xi back in my A36, Comanche, C414, and RV8..  Still fiddling with my RV14, but I'm sure I'll get it figured out 🙂

And.. the RV14A is working as well... really no need to go back to 2020 🙂

Thanks!  I'll have a look!  The Carenado planes are outside my grasp.. but the ones I have the code for, should be interesting to look at.

Hello Scott,

We thank you for your appreciation and for your honest words explaining the situation in detail.

While this post is about MSFS 2024 support in the TDS GTNXi Pro, it seems that somehow the discussion got derailed about subscriptions in general. The work that we have put into the navigation database/charts has been a tremendous undertaking on our part, we have done this out of our desire to finally fulfill the most requested feature and achilles heel of PC Trainer products and we are glad to hear that this feature is enjoyed by most, if not all our users. Sure, it is very difficult to change the mentality of more than a decade and a half where people have gotten used to any PC trainer product not being updated, but we have achieved this and we truly hope that many will enjoy it.

As stated above, many times, a Navigraph subscription is not required to fully use the TDS GTNXi Pro and it is indeed a blessing to have, but in the TDS GTNXi Pro case, users are getting aviation level navigation database/charts for a fraction of the price of real ones. The real life pilots who own GTN or even GNS devices know the real life costs very well! What we have in this industry is more than a blessing, for the level of detail that has been put into it! It is not like the subscription money goes to TDS, it is not our database. For this we are thankful of Navigraph providing this service!

Through this, we will continue developing and supporting the TDS GTNXi Pro in both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 and we will continue adding many new and exciting features at the highest level of detail as we have accustomed our users up until now!
