Scenery Recommendations

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have been using XP12 and wanted to ask which sceneries you guys recommend.

I have been only flying with default airports which I consider really decent.

Also what is the opinion on JARDesign Ground Handling Deluxe? Is it equivalent to FSDreateam GSX?

Thank you.

GHD or Ground Handling Deluxe is really only suitable for XP11, gave up using it too clunky and unweildy. There is a brlliant LUA script based program available here called

SImple Ground Services Equipment - https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/62296-simple-ground-equipment-services-low-tech-services/&tab=reviews&sort=newest#review-130513

Does just about everything that GHD did and is easy to use - thats all i use now!

As for scenery only SIMHEAVEN (dependant on which region of the earth you want some are good some the default is better) and the only payware scenery enhancer I have is ORBX Global Forests that said if the ORBX did the Continental LC groups for XPlane they did for P3D/FSX I would be on to them like a shot. Other than that it is up to the level of RW authenticity one wants for airports I only have Fly Tampas Sydney Australia and some other freelance work by Cami de Bellis who does trick things up nicely as well. Other than that default is as good as it gets in a lot of places really.

Im using X-World from Simheaven, Ortho4Xp for my homecountry and Autoortho for the other countrys.

GHD also works fine in XP12.

Also I use some payware Airports, like EDDF, EDDS, EDDB, LSZH and HGLL.

Because I live to fly Helicopters i have a lot Freeware Heliports from xplane.org.

Never used auto-ortho, and it's been a long time since I last tried to use ortho4xp, but I didn't know it was possible to create "exclusion" areas in auto-ortho to prevent it from "painting" specific areas ?

SimHeaven is great, but I gave up using it with my rig until I get a better processor & GPU and maybe 64 GB RAM...

One really irritating feature of some default airports in X-Plane 12 are the sometimes overdone slopes on runways and taxiways. Example of how bad it can look & feel is LPMA, where it is practically impossible to operate according to RW techniques given the skew the runway has as well as the huge slope and skewed taxi and parking slots 😕  For that I use "Wonderful Madeira" free from the .Org

No, you could only feasibly do this on a full 1x1 degree area.

I use simheaven and ortho4xp for europe and Map enhacement for the rest.

I also have TotalMexico installed and Orbx TE uk.

I have an i7 11700, 16 GB of RAM and a 3060ti and in general except for some aereas everything works very well.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I forgot to mention that I actually use

Simheaven. I was looking more like commercial airports.

As for JARDesign Ground Handling Deluxe I endend up buying it last night.

Cheap price for trying it. It does says that it is compatible with XP12.

The download includes two versions. XP11 and XP12.

GHD is dead! Any new aircraft and it doesn't work. I tried to find a set for the BAe 146... Only available for XP11 which don't work in XP12. Not this plane's sets. And it's WAY TOO TIRESOME to start fiddling around with the set builder. GHD is obsolete trash. I'll have to try to find an alternative, since nothing new works in GHD anymore. 💩

If you are looking for an alternative GHD, there is a freeware solution that has been out for some time called SEGS that has other addon the work together with Simload manager.

However there is a new payware solution that replaces GHD and has the potential of being the next GSX of X plane called Realops. This is a brand new addon to X-plane  that has a growing following with new liveries and presets being made since its release back in February. It will do all of what GHD does and eventually SAM's for controlling gates. Use the link below for more info and use the links within that site that will take you to their discord. There you will find the latest info on any bug fix's,  liveries and presets.

I am newer to xplane 12 myself and really am pleased with payware from Nimbus, Shortfinal, the new release of KEWR from Dzreweicki Design, and KAUS from DominicDesign. I have a couple airports from GloballArt as well for Canada and cannot say I am impressed with the textures at the terminals but there isnt really anything else for CYUL or CYYZ.

Can’t be as bad as DCS PGUA Anderson, no? 😂

If there’s one scenery I’ll always recommend, it’s Orbx True Earth Great Britain (all 3).

While I used to buy just a ton of airports back in XP 11 and (especially) Prepar3D, I’ve kinda cooled off on them with XP12 and MSFS because the default airports are quite a bit better these days.

I can definitely recommend Northern Sky Studios. They have a series of high quality airfields for Hawai’i and Alaska. AND they include a high quality ortho photo with each airfield that is MUCH larger than most.

For eg, their HI orthos actually cover the entirety of the state!

There are definitely other good shops out there like VerticalSim and some of the newer Orbx, but I kinda only buy airports if I’m sure im going to fly there regularly.

Only scenery i have is hawai. Mainly because its such nice place to fly ga. And this adds the reefs makes flying interesting

Like other mention of the Hawaiian Scenery I also have the Seychelles and the Society Islands I think worth mentioning.

One freeware I like to recommend is the EPGD Lech Walesa Airport. The developer put his heart a soul in the at one.

I’ve seen the Society Islands packages in a couple of videos - it looks nice!

Since you own it, is it worth getting? I.e., would you buy it again?
