October 8, 20241 yr I managed to get this installed from 11 23H2 to 24H2. MSFS runs as before, I see no difference. But there may be some small changes to fps performance, but I can't tell any difference. Warning if you use apps found online such as discord to alter taskbar and other features it may be hard to remember how you have changed the windows registry. And then when you run the MS windows compatibility app it will say all is well, but despite that, 24H2 won't install. Windows 24H2 is now picky about 3rd party apps. It requires a reinstall of windows to proceed, which saves data, but does NOT save your programs. What a mess! The only safe way to change the new GUI of 24H2 is Stardock Start11 ($10). It's 20 years old (it keeps changing the name). Very safe and lets you do almost a hundred options to change Windows to an easier and simpler GUI. Taskbar, Start window, Seach window, much other stuff.: It lets you choose between windows 7,8,10,11 looking interfaces, taskbar, etc. Mine is set up to look and operate like Windows 7, not Windows 11. It's windows 11 in functions, but with a Windows 7 GUI look and feel. https://www.stardock.com/products/start11/ 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
October 11, 20241 yr +1 for Stardock Start 11. I've been using it since the Windows 8 "start menu" dumpster fire. Been using it ever since. Also, be warned. If you do a clean install of Windows 11 24H2, Microsoft now takes the liberty of enabling bit locker by default. Good times. Of course if you jump through all the hoops and setup Windows using a local account. Bit Locker can't encrypt because Windows is unable to store the backup bitlocker encryption key to your Microsoft account. LOL. I swear the only reason I still use Windows is because of MSFS. October 11, 20241 yr Author My first flight a couple days ago with 24H2 was 110 to about 128 fps in the Lionheart Jungmann biplane. And 49-54 in the same plane in VR. I like the plane because the cockpit looks great in VR (so does the Carenado Seneca EDIT Seminole). With 23H2 it was always under 100 in 2D. Flying in the same test conditions I always use. Maybe coincidence, and its only anecdotal. But at least I know 24H2 does not retrograde the MSFS experience. It also does at least as good in DX12 as DX11 in VR, which was not the case with 23H2. October 22, 20241 yr Author I continue to see better fps in 24H2. December 19, 20241 yr Moderator I updated my main flight sim PC and an older Chillblast to this build this morning. I always wait a while before doing so. I had two big problems. First was my GoFlight GF166 units which failed to show a display. They're okay in the bootup along with my other GF kit but stay blank when P3D is loaded. It took an uninstall and reinstall of the GF installer to get them working again. Second was Steam's Lossless Scaling app. It was stuck on 20 / 20 meaning no increase on fps. After some searching I discovered DXGI is no longer supported in W11 and a new version has WGC which does work. However, it doesn't stop there as the frame rate limiter in RTSS doesn't work. I've now stopped using that for that purpose and setup 20fps as the max fps in Nvidia Control Panel for P3D. The x3 accelerator now works in Lossless Scaling. All a bit traumatic as I wasn't expecting any of these problems but relieved to have resolved them. Ray (Cheshire, England). (crashes, lock-ups, etc) Is the WGC you reference something in LS or is it a Windows change? Get the latest LG from Steam which has the new option which will make LG work again. You also need to set 20fps in Nvidia CP and not RTSS as previously. It should be okay after that. Just had a lengthy drive in ATS and NO Screen Lock only to have me driving through the fields or slamming into an overpass. Keeping fingers crossed this cures it and I did change the setting in LS to WGC as indicated.. 🤠👍 Regards,Pivoti9-10900k * 64Gb Ram * MSI RTX 4070 Ti Gaming X Trio * Steel Series Arctis Pro Wireless Headset * Win11 Home x64 * Beam ET * TM Warthog Combo, Honeycomb Alpha & Saitek Pro-Rudders
January 3, 20251 yr Hi guys, Are there any problems when installing win11 24h2, is there anything known? As far as I know my system is equipped with the latest drivers and it has been offered in my taskbar for some time now, but I really don't know if I should risk it, what do you think? I think it will be installed automatically at some point and maybe I should wait until then because new updates are always being added to this build, which for me means that the longer it is on, the more stable it could become? Would love to hear about your experience with build 24h2, what should I do ? cheers 😉 08.2024 new PC is online : ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI Mainboard, AMD Ryzen™ 9 7950X3D Prozessor, G.Skill DIMM 64 GB DDR5-6000 (2x 32 GB) Dual-Kit, MSI GeForce RTX 4090 VENTUS 3X E 24G OC Grafikkarte, 2x WD Black SN850X NVMe SSD 4 TB - Drive C+D, WD Gold Enterprise Class 12 TB for storage HDD, Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1000W PC - Power supply, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO CPU Aircooler with 7 Heatpipes, Design Meshify 2 White TG Clear Tint Tower-Case, 3x 4K monitors 2x32 Samsung 1x27 LG 3840x2160, Windows11 Prof. 23H2 - now Windows11 Prof. 25H2 Flightsimulator Hardware: Honeycomb Throttle Bravo, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, Logitech Flight Joke System, XBox Controller, some Thrustmaster stuff, Winwing CDU Panels.

January 3, 20251 yr I force installed it in November and have not thought about it since. If it is there being offered then your system is ready, but if you are timid about updates and it will cause you to worry then you should wait a bit longer. I'm sure there are people here who will insist that it breaks things but alI can say with any certainty is that it didn't for me. 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2 - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base
