January 17, 20251 yr My mb is a Asus Strix x670-e paired with a 7950X3D, 64 gigs ram and 4090. With 2024 and 2020 l get really good performance with the usual annoying micro stutters. I usually make a habit of checking and updating my bios every 6 months or so. This last change with bios 2604 made major changes to the bios settings from my last bios. There was one setting in particular. One in the Ai Tweaker that is a gaming setting and warns you that other applications may be effected negatively. When I tried the setting and flew with 2024 I was getting a huge improvement in fluidity with a modest increase in fps. But I would randomly recieve stutters with audio cutouts. A little bit of research and I was reading about latency. I unplugged my speakers from my onboard sound and played them through my 4090, monitor and no more stutters. The difference for me is black and white in fluidity and reduction in micro stuttering. I have not tested 2020 yet. I have no idea if other motherboards have a similar bios update. January 17, 20251 yr It's recent game mode that was added to the base AMD firmware as far as I am aware so will be available for all motherboard vendors provided they offer a recent BIOS update. Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. Quest 3 for VR.
January 17, 20251 yr Author Just finished a flight from KSEA to PAKT Any micro stutters I think I have are through me and my TrackIR. If I pause my TrackIR things are as fluid as a movie. That's at a TLOD of 300, at 400 I can tell that my system is being taxed too much, 300 is my sweet spot. The difference in fluidity is profound. Floyd Stolle www.stollco.com
January 17, 20251 yr That setting disables 1 CCD of your CPU, forcing everything to run on the 3D VCache CCD. A much better solution would be to: 1) have the latest AMD chipset driver installed - make sure that the process "AMD 3D VCache performance optimizer" is running 2) "teach" Windows that the sim is a game: open the Game bar - click on the gear on top of the screen (settings) - general - "Remember that this is a game" In this way you will force the sim to run on the more performing CCD but at the same time the other CCD will remain available for background tasks and other software. This computer is 100% dedicated to MSFS Will that give me any kind of benefit? I have no expertise edit: I still have eight cores, will the cpu run cooler only using the one CCD? etc. etc. Edited January 17, 20251 yr by laserit Floyd Stolle www.stollco.com

I haven't done a BIOS update in awhile....this "new" setting, it completely disables CCD1? Using PL, i've got pretty much all background tasks assigned to CCD1 to free up CCD0. SMT off, and MSFS is set to 0-15 (default). AMD 9950X3D | 64 GB RAM | RTX 5090 FMR: 747 FO, 757/767 CAPT, 737 Check Airman Current 777 CAPT

I have no idea of all the intricacies involved, but turning this option on and off is like turning on and off a switch. I'd need instructions on how to set my system up the other way. Now I'm curious.... is it better??? A flightsimmer's life is never satisfied lol Floyd Stolle www.stollco.com

I agree and this is what I’ve done (7950X3D). I tried “game mode” and performance was worse. Also, I paid a lot for the CPU, it doesn’t make sense to only use half of it… CCD1 is good for non-sim apps. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

Hi MrFuzzy, Where do I find the "AMD 3D VCache performance optimizer"? In my Bios? Thanks in advance!
