So they charge around $200 a year for ATC, but this program they are giving away for free.  Huh?

Did you read the feature comparison posted on page 2 of this thread? OpenSky is clearly a very, very slimmed down version of SI. I assume they want you to try Open Sky, and then go for the full version.

Understood, for many it is the deal breaker.  However, for me, compared to spending $20+ a month for beer and/or fast food on a whim, it was a good substitute for my money. I will say that at first, I

I did like, although it was my first experience with SI, and I didn't have much time to test the features that will be dropped after the evaluation period, when it reverts to the free "OpenSky".

I did miss Traffic injected by the own App or an external one, like I have with either FSHUD or BATC.

I did appreciate the fact that even with some of my sntences being probably a bit difficult to understand, the AI did a remarkable job parsing it !

Will continue to test OpenSky, bu I'll probably start with monthly licensing, because it's all days / weeks / months that I'm able to have a simming slot with the chance to "speak freely" at the desktop 🙂

I use FSHud.  It never ever lets me down (or it does, using the correct procedures, even including separation).  They focus on functionality and accuracy over having a laugh with your favourite Twitch streamer's voice.

I don't think I've seen one flight using SayIntentions where it has actually performed accurately from gate to gate.  Hence I will stay with FSHud.  I gave Entourage a try in the bakground which was okay.

So what is  the cost of the premium version then?

Just $16.25/15,42 per month (paid annually), or $19.95/€18,50 per month (paid per month)

This is direct from their website.

OK, I am confused at this point. The video is about Free ATC called Open Sky . Is it Open Sky Free, or is it $20 a month, in other words, free unless you want the better  version of Open Sky?

I guess I could say the same about BATC. 🙃

Might very well be the case but since I don’t have batc, i can offer no insight.

I’m not here to promote either but as an si premium subscriber I can report my impressions…

The “better version” is SI!

They offer a limited version for free in the hope of enticing you into getting the premium version.

In my video on page three you can see, after the flight, what was said and what was actually comprehended. Its a nice tool to self evaluate it its AI or you thats confused. Another option that I like is you can jump in and out of it by creating a button press. This to me is extremely helpful when I fly on PilotEdge as I can pick up ATIS at all airports and disconnect from PE and switch to their tower for landing at non towered PE airports. Same as departing.

Bait and switch is when you think you are getting something and get something different. This is not the case. This is a tease.

Sorry, I thought you were asking about SI.  Open Sky is indeed free.  SayIntentions.ai is the full blown subscription based version.  I think the purpose of OpenSky being a freeware is to allow users more than the original SI 24hr trial time, to decide if they want to upgrade.  Also, many will probably stick with OpenSky as it may be all they ever need. It takes the flight from gate to gate using the runways identified in the flight plan. It is my understanding the user is not able to request a change of runways.  Of course I could very well be wrong, just what I understood from Brian's initial presentation about OpenSky.

You used to call it all wrong then since you are indeed getting what you expected. A free version of Sayintentions called OpenSky.

Reading through the thread it does look like you keep throwing you two cents in here and there but never tried it. Why don't you give it ago and then you can at least really through true comments in the ring.

Where I'm from we used to call that, and actually still call it, a demo.

Well after giving BATC another flight, I kinda get what SI is doing with their Open Sky. It seems BATC is pretty much point to point with little options to change destination, cancel IFR and go VFR once airborne and other things that offer more customization. So basically, Open Sky is BATC without AI traffic except its free where BATC has a 30 dollar cost.

I'm happy I got BATC and can see using it when I want IFR only and AI as I will be operating at airports that would have commercial traffic. Other wise I'll be more SI when I'm wanting more ATC options and controllers that better understand and can deal with special request.

BATC is good and I can understand why those who have it (especially if you fly the big tin) are happy with it. So Open Sky is a way to let those users discover that SI is also got great options that BATC doesnt and you can get it and have it at no additional cost with no terms attached, so why not give it a try.

As an owner of both batc and fshud, I wanted to try opensky with sayintentions 24 hours demo.

What i liked: you can use your own language,  AI voice is very good, great for local VFR flights where you never use english bur speak local.

What i miss: AI traffic. Flying alone feels like missing something, same as using an external traffic source not controlled by ATC.  And the features I'm more interested in, are (obviously) part of the paid full package.

The day it will have traffic, despite the cost, I could think about a subscription.
