My take:

1. P3Dv5

...

4. If you go for 2D clouds then I would recommend REX.

Quick question here:

The remark about the 2D clouds is very good, because it's important to note for the OP that P3Dv5 was the first iteration to bring volumetric clouds, to witch REX cloud textures do not apply (textures are only for the 2D clouds). However, how is it about the sky colors, and the sunlight+atmospheric effects, from a shaders point of view ? Didn't REX bring something in that area ? Or was it another addon ?

does the TCA throttle quadrant works with the Aerosoft airbuses in P3D v5.4?

I understand it does. I can't confirm, since I don't have this throttle.

PS: with your specs and the addons you mention, you'll do fine in either v4.5 or 5.4. AFAIK, there are only two v5-only addons I know of (FSL Concorde and iFly 737 Max), but I don't know if you're interested on them.

Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX3060 Ti 8GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120 Hz (G-sync compatible, but disabled), Windows 11 (at last!). Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020 and even FS9. On the fence for MSFS2024.

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there for airliner ops. FSX-SE also installed, just in case. Lossless Scaling in al my rigs. What a godsend...

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/travel.

Very good point. Yeah REX does bring sky colors, etc. but that is assuming you do not use the enhanced atmospherics option in the sim (my personal preference is having EA on + 2D clouds). 🙂

Thanks for the clarification !

But then, isn't there an addon to customize the shaders of the Enhanced Atmospherics ?

P3D v5. I would avoid P3Dv6 because of the un-guaranteed compatibility of many addons.

But works like a charm with a lot of them (I am using PMDG DC-6 for P3D v4 !)

Most of ORBX scenery are just perfect - and V6 is looking much better than V4 and V5 with better performance.

Just take a look here  :

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I will take my time now and start building the p3dv5.4 sim!

I really hope that my TCA throttle quadrant will work 🙂

Thanks again everyone for the input

cheers

Yes TOGO projects here.  MSFS terrain tiles is 256-512 … not to be confused with custom objects, per SDK docs and best practices for use in XBox.

If Windows can see it then P3D can. One more reason for investing in FSUIPC. You can assign two engines to a single axis for four engine aircraft. Concorde for example. 😁👍

Best a320 sim available for any platform.

Agreed, but they could do with hiring a marketing person and/or someone who can represent their "public" image as the developers and company owners do themselves NO favors (in any aspect from sales to support).

So true of another popular study level aircraft developer.

Yes, and FSUIPC can see any device and do just about anything with it … it’s a “magical” tool to say the least.

Just to add: the payed version of FSUIPC is able to run "LUA scripts".
That needs some fiddling but supports enhanced steering aircraft by USB controllers (switches, buttons a.s.o.).
