How good is Qualitywings 787 ?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if purchase or not, so my question - is it comparable to PMDG birds ( performance and complexity ), any major issue still lingers ?

The biggest beef I have with the 787 is that the panel displays are locked at 18 fps, so no matter how good a frame rate you have in the sim, the panels run at 18.  Makes the displays "steppy" and less than fluid, especially compared to other add-ons.

I've been using it on and off for a few years. It doesn't really compare to PMDGs level of detail and performance. Many items are not modeled and there many more things that are not realistic and just plain wrong with regard to system operations. There are way too many to put in this post.  I'm a former R/W Boeing pilot so my expectations are probably higher than the average simmer. Also, what you see is what you get since QW stopped all development for the product a while back. At this point I rarely use it anymore.

Thanks for feedback 👍

I thought I would throw my 2 cents in as well for what it is worth. I too put the PMDG 777 above the QW 787 however as a non RW pilot the 787 still suits my needs even with quirks that are noted above. I find the performance is really good as well. I would still get it if you really want a 787 and do not want to use the freeware TDS version available. Maybe just wait for a sale to come up if you are uncomfortable paying full price for something that isn't supported any longer.

It's been a very long time since I've flown it.  If memory serves me correct, there are issues with VNAV functions.  Mine is in the bone yard.  Unless it goes on sale for over 50% off, I would not recommend it.  Total abandonware.  Best to stick with PMDG or go Airbus with FSLabs.  Cost is more but, you get what you pay for.  Just my $0.02.

Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo, Thrustmaster TFRP. It's an older machine but gets the job done quite nicely - smooth with no stutters!

It's quite surprising that after all those years, those products are still on sale at flight1 due to the fact that the developer is mostly on flatline with no support at all.

Their forum is a ghost town and the last message on their facebook page was 4 years ago.

Is the support provided by flight1 or is any purchase at your own risk?

I think their main problem is that FSX or P3D sales have dried to near zero as there are only a few comers to those sims and that most people still using FSX or P3D already bought the products a log time ago. And they were undercut badly on msfs. At start, the defaut 787 was subpar and there was a market for a QW787.

But the kuro and horizon sim mods + the works by WT on the defaut 787-10 badly undercut QW. Yes the QW would have probably been better but maybe not at a point that most simmers would have bought it.

Why does msfs have to get dragged into this when we are talking P3D addon aircraft? It is completely irrelevant to the discussion.

Stop having red dots each time msfs appears here. No one is comparing sims. It is perfectly relevant because the improvement on the default 787 in msfs perfectly explain the main reason why QW disappeared.

And the fact that they completely vanished raise the question to whether it is valuable or not to buy a QW787 in 2025.

If you definitely want a 787 for P3D, yes, the QW one is the option to go. Since there's no development team, there's neither anyone that can initiate a discount, so don't count on that. You decide if you want to pay $80 for this 787 or whatever it costs to get the Premium Deluxe versions of the other sims.

I fly both (QW in P3D; Asobo/Horizon/Kuro in MSFS), so I can't help much in your decision.

again, what does MSFS have to do with someone who is simply asking about an addon for P3D and if it is worth it...If he cared to ask about 787 addons for MSFS he would be asking in that forum. Did you see anywhere in his original message asking about a 787 for MSFS? It gets tiring everytime someone drags MSFS in the discussion for no reason.

Cool down man!

Some people were referring about the worries of buying an aircraft which is quite an abandonware those days with the risks of having no support at all if needed. I was just listing the main reason why QW went under the radar, nothing more, nothing less.  it's quite pathetic how a single word can turn people into some kind of madness even when nobody even make a comparaison between sims.

End of the road for me on this thread, I don't want to argue with you anymore on this subject.

QW 787 did have some nice features, like CDU/MFDs could be displayed on an Android/iPad and fully functional.  Visually it’s a very nice aircraft and wing flex is spot on.  It does have some depth to it, not FSLabs depth but enough to keep me interested.   But it does also have some bugs and there are work arounds and as pointed out, no support.

If you’re looking for a more supported product then PMDG or FSLabs.  The QW 787 is the best 787 I’ve used in the platforms I use (XP, P3D, MSFS).

As far as real world, I love to travel on the 787, very roomy.

Its certainly a flyable plane in v5.x . Major functionality is there with the main autopilot modes. It does not have GBS capabilities though. It is quite stable without any major CTDs in my view. I flew over 30 flights round-the-world without any issues.

The only problem I had initially was with the fuzzy gauges to begin with but that was resolved by turning off the VC mip mapping.

It does like to float on flare due to its wing high lift characteristics, so needs a bit of getting use to.

I can not remember if the ILS frequencies are working at the 8.33khz interval/range in the cockpit (I suspect not) so this may (?) be an issue with some other addons you may have e.g. FSHud etc.

I own QW 787 on P3D and here are my thoughts on this:

  1. Certainly it is flyable from A to B however it is now heavily outdated.
  2. System simulations are either wrong or broken.
  3. FMS reasonable however there are cons - you can manually enter your route, weight, performance figures, SIDs and STARs however you can forget doing any complex departures or arrival procedures. Most procedures designed today take aircraft performance into account - this is something not simulated by QW 787.
  4. You can't fly RNAV/RNP approaches.
  5. Aircraft cannot fly Holds accurately
  6. You cannot do any PBN (Radius to fix legs, Fly-by and Fly-over types of waypoints)
  7. Step climb prediction is bit off
  8. Basic EFB which allows to change payload and to do performance calculations (although it seems performance calculations are bit off or they don't change when you change certain variables like thrust setting. Etc) However there is no simbrief or navigraph integration.

Having said that - the exterior model and sounds are spot on.

To OP - This is product is now very outdated and the official support from developers does not exist as the developers themselves have disappeared from the face of the earth. Their official forums are dead. If I were you - I wouldn't buy it ($79.95 for something which will see no official support or further product updates).

If you can and your machine is capable of running - Get MSFS instead for 787, You can run P3D and MSFS side by side with no problem (this is what I do) Space is not much of issue these days with cheaper faster storage drives available almost everywhere. The 787 on another platform is a lot better then what QW has to offer.

I don't use QW 787 anymore - the lack of further updates from the developers and the the above errors for which there is no fix has demotivated me in using it, I fly primarily on Vatsim and as I said above a lot of procedures designed today make use of aircraft's RNAV capability something which QW is not capable of running.
