Honestly, force feedback in rudder pedals is pretty unnecessary.  You'd likely never even notice it, unless you were doing a lot of aerobatics in GA planes.  In anything with hydraulic controls, there's really no force feedback in rudder or ailerons for that matter, just an artificial centering unit (basically a better version of the spring centering in sim controls). Now elevator, that's a different story because of the feel of changing pitch trim state.

Even for airliners, though, wouldn't force feedback pedals be nice for engine out work because you would be able to trim away the force you're holding on the pedals? Admittedly, not an everyday scenario.

Agree that pitch trim is the place where force feedback would be a gamechanger. And for airplanes with manually powered controls, of course, variable control forces would really add to the immersion.

BTW, I got to try the WinWing force feedback prototypes (joystick, yoke and pedals) at FSWeekend. They didn't have them hooked up to a sim - it was just the peripherals themselves with two faders that allowed you to control the (simulated) spring tension and damping. They did feel nice though - no "notchiness", and they produced a decent amount of force. And the price point is very impressive. I'm temped to get at least the joystick, maybe the pedals too...

It's probably just me, but wasn't that presentation just a little bit 'Steve Jobs'?

Solid point.  They would be good for that!

I got two fans and a candle that smells like aviation fuel that gives me these effects when I fly my stearman. There is also a wind machine for about $300 that has software for MSFS that makes the wind go in different directions and speed depending on the situation. I also use 3 buttkickers for all the other effects.
