I don't see many people paying $120 for an aircraft. $70-80 is already considered high for the top-tier planes on the MSFS platform. Even worse, is this a subscription model? Who would pay for annual access? Yeah, they are going to learn a hard lesson. $5 for 30-day access is an interesting offer, though; I would pay the $5 if it were applied to the full purchase price. It sounds similar to renting the plane to try it before buying it. The question is, what does lifetime even mean? Quote the aircraft will be distributed using a tiered pricing model: $5 for 30-day access $50 for annual access $120 for lifetime access 11 hours ago, jcomm said: I am actually an advocate of X-Plane developers charging whatever is fair for their work. I am an advocate of that as well. They should charge whatever they feel is a fair price for their work. On the other hand, the customer could also decide not to buy it if we think the pricing is ridiculous, as is the case above, in my opinion. I like the idea of a tier system. Many games are already using this model with standard editions, deluxe editions, etc. I typically fly normal ops only, so I'm happy with a high-fidelity plane. I don't need every single circuit breaker modeled if it means a price reduction (standard edition). The premium edition would be the so-called "Study Level" for those who want to spend $$$$$ for all the bells and whistles. Edited March 27, 20251 yr by brinx Flight Sim PC - OS: Windows 11 Pro. There is an UPROAR in the X-Plane user society every time a new aircraft comes out that is more expensive than others, and every left thinker starting with Lenin and Marx is quoted to condemn that brutal capitalist attack on equality and community and every free citizen in the free world should have the right to get add-on X, even if they can not afford it. A dev will want to hit the top of the optimization curve of the number of sales/price graph. As there is basically zero cost associated with the number of sales (except for the server load of each download and possible costs to provide support), what the dev THINKS his add-on is worth has zero relevance. What is relevant is what he thinks that people will be ready to pay for it. To sell 1 million copies at 1$ is better than 100 copies at 1000$. There is one more psychological effect coming in here, too - if you charge an outrageous amount for your add-on, people will start to think that "it must be worth it". There is a certain percentage of users that is willing to pay 120$ for a dinner at a restaurant and enjoy their dinner for the fact that they paid that much. This is what sells First Class seats on aircraft, Luxury cars and makes people spend 3000$ on 5090s 😅.

My beef with this pricing model is that I generally only want a single variant in exchange for a lower price, e.g., the PMDG 777F. I'd be willing to consider this if it proves to be an absolutely stunning addon that exceeds the fidelity of all the other top devs - but only if it does so by a good margin. Even then, to pay a price like this (like it used to be in Prepar3D), it'd have to be a plane where I envision spending most of my time. There's just too many other players in the game now to willingly go back to pricing levels when "Study Level" was basically a choice between PMDG and FS Labs. And another thing that occurs, this is releasing initially for v2020, so it's missing out on the technical advances of the new sim (improved physics being my primary interest). And tho they say the update to v2024 will be free of charge, IDK if it will be a Compatibility update or a true Upgrade to "Native" v2024's features with all the bells and whistles.

In sum, I don't want to be forced to pay for a premium bundle of five "different" versions of the same aircraft when all I want is ONE. It's worse than the old P3D pricing schemes...almost like they want us to believe there's actually half a dozen physical models in the package and CoGS is literally higher. I mean, this is "yet another 737-x", for Pete's sake... And "switchable equipment configurations"? Thranda sells that for $35 all day, every day. At least with Fenix, FSL, PMDG, or even Leonardo, I can get one or two variants for $70-$80. If I'm going to pay that much for an addon, I want it to be something as in depth, accurate and immersive as the Hot Start Challenger.

TBH, if they did offer it like that the price would probably be something along the lines of. $110 per variant or $120 for a bundle of all variants. (regardless of sim). and adding more "budget" options tends to be far more effort than its worth. AutoATC Developer
