What are the little things that annoy you at addon airports?

Featured Replies

I decided to start this thread primarily because of an issue that I have noticed at quite a few of my purchased addon airports (including the one that I have just tested this morning)....

  • Misaligned runway centreline markings

As a beta tester, alignment of runway markings and lighting is the first thing that I check whenever I am given a new airport to test. It is (IMO) the single most important aspect of an airport to get right, and yet I am constantly amazed at how many addon airports are affected by it. I simply do not understand how a set of markings that should be perfectly aligned with each other can look like they have been slapped down by a blind man doing a Michael Jackson dance routine.

Other issues that I noticed.....

  • Badly misaligned displaced runway threshold arrow
  • Terrain elevation issue on the apron

To be fair, the latter is almost certainly due to me not using PG (and this should give you an idea of the developer/publisher of the airport that I tested)), but that is no excuse. All addon airports should be designed to work properly with PG enabled or disabled. No exceptions.

To me the single most infuriating “little thing” is elevated runway edge lights in the middle of the taxiway....

  • Static aircraft that cannot be turned off are the worst. Gates that still remain unavailable when statics are turned off comes second (looking at you iniBuilds...)

single most annoying thing to me are the generic fake looking taxiway/runway signs.  Even most payware keep the default ones.  But the devs who do custom signs are the ones I appreciate the most.

That's probably why I don't even consider buying addon airports 🙂

And live with even more uneven terrain and badly alligned ai generated taxiways.

Lack of red (some white) Obstacle lights.... (on top of towers, lightmast, etc etc) 🤔

One aspect I really don't like, not directly related to addon or default airports, is the way the simulator represents the effects of slopes on runways and taxiways...

On sloped taxi and rws when the aircraft cross them it doesn't appear to do it correctly from a physics pov... Acts more like a lift than a slope...

Do you mean when AI planes appear to "step up, or step down" multiple times, rather than rolling smoothly?

Yes! I am doing a freeware project and they are all hand-placed.  The default lights are also too big in many cases so I made my own custom lights as well.  If you let the "AI" place the taxi lights, they will be everywhere and I have seen payware sceneries like that. Sloppy..

Exactly, but I feel the same with my own aircraft 😕

I imagine my little tubro prop clipping the taxiway lights that....are....right...in...the....middle....of the taxiway...

Parking lines that do not align anywhere close to where the aircraft should be for proper gate alignment often meaning the VDGS or marshaller ends up in the cockpit with you!!!  Drives me nuts.

I have managed to get a few issues fixed over the past year by pestering the developers until they beg for mercy  However, I still have a list of others that need to be updated. Sadly, one or two are never likely to be corrected, as the developers have vanished without a trace (an example would be the "bent" runway at LGPA Paros; Simtek Solutions).

These things, and the scenery "popping" in/out at these airports are probably my least favorite. Doesn't matter which settings, TLOD, OLOD, autoFPS, FSP cap blah blah. Scenery popping in as your on final is probably the worst. Usually happens in payware airports. Maybe its gsx objects loading in? I have gsx "extra" clutter turned off....
