  • I like it very much using it with the original voices. It'll continue to improve as it's still an EA product. Be patient

  • And we do need a dedicated thread for this why exactly? There are so many about BATC, why couldn't this little review go in there?

  • No matter which aircraft I am flying ,I just figure out where I need to start descending to reach proper altitude for approach and just ask BATC for descent permission.

it seems this being too high on descent thing is a common problem - hope they get it sorted.

What I haven't figured out is why on some descents BATC gives ample descent steps according to the same altitude constraints in the Simbrief OFP, then the next one tells you to descend to X altitude, then never says another word regarding this.  So I will wait wait wait until I will clearly be too high and descend, only to have BATC then come in w/ another instruction to descend to X.   I'm guessing it's just still being developed in this regard.

I know some or most would find this preposterous but I like it.  I really prefer the Premium voices and pilot voice choices they really sound great and add hugely in the ambience domain.  But they're expensive for what they add as well.  So I avoid using BATC's traffic injector because then, even when only Controller voices are chosen for Premium, you get communications with other AI traffic sucking up those characters quickly.   So I use FSLTL's injector and models so now BATC ATC only communicates with me the pilot...and I still use LiveATC for additional regional ambience enhancement.  The net positives on this are substantially lower performance cost, liquid smooth AI traffic animation and big reduction in cost to hear ONLY premium voices.  Of course there is the occasional time when traffic will interfere with you but it's relatively uncommon and quite often FSLTL will be aware of your presence and hold.  And of course you won't hear ATC directing other traffic, outside of LiveATC I mean.  Anyway, since 90% of the time BATC will simply be directing me to fly the route in my navigation it's arguably mostly ambience anyway.

This is exactly what I have chosen to do - having the premium voices adds a great deal to the immersion level but expensive and using FSTL's injector, hence  no comms with AI in BATC, helps with the expense.  One other small wrinkle I have found is that while flying west out of NZWN bound for YSSY at FL340 I was only given the option to change FL to odd levels when the convention is for even levels when flying west.  The other thing I found is if simbrief gives you a non sensible departure procedure (by that I mean after TO direct to a waypoint 180 deg behind you (so conflicting with arriving traffic) that is what you get in BATC.  I edited the OFP and got simbrief to chose a departure that made sense and that is what BATC gave me.

Update.  This thing can't do vectors reliably - on approach into YSSY 16R on a heading of 310 instead of being instructed to turn left to intercept the localiser on a heading of 155 I'm vectored onto a heading of 310 then 345 and that was the last I heard from them - gave up after overflying Gosford on the NSW Central Coast a long way from YSSY.  This is the second airport that BATC has failed me with a vectored approach.  I like the premium voices in BATC and the UI but if it can't handle the basics of ATC there isn't much point in persisting with it.

Is this with the official release version or the early access version?

Well, in all honesty... I love BATC and won't fly without it but to me it's mainly an 'immersion adding addon'. More so than a reliable ATC addon. I do listen to what BATC tells me but whenever I think ATC is wrong or it doesn't do what you'd expect I simply ignore it. I often cut off too long STARs by simply flying straight to the IAF and switching to tower: BATC doesn't mind AT ALL if you do that and simply keeps talking to you as if nothing has happened. Of course this is a big shame but it is what it is and I've accepted it. I do like the immersion BATC gives me too much to not use it anymore.

And another thing in all honesty: I doubt if BATC will ever be 'perfect'. I know the regular answer to any of the common ATC-problems is 'Yeah, well, what did you expect, it's EA' but I've been using BATC since the very first beta (I was one of the first to join) and seeing they still haven't fixed some of the very basic ATC stuff after all this time... well, I really doubt if they ever will. Time will tell. But I do think BATC will remain some sort of EA forever.

Well I have pretty much come to the same conclusion when BATC works well it adds a lot to the immersion but if it doesn't do your own thing.  In the example cited in my previous post by the time I had ignored BATC and flown back to intercept the localiser  for 16L it just told me to contact the tower as if nothing untoward had happened.  On the other hand BATC worked perfectly today flying into YMML for RWY 34 RNAV approach - including vectors over the CBD and a right hand turn for the approach just like real life.  So there you go.

Agreed, BATC is a hit and miss, worth every penny when it comes to adding to the immersion like some of you have stated.

Before you buy this program you should see how they are enjoying to ban users on the SUPPORT channel. I don't know who they banned but if he is on this forum he can say everything he thinks right to Fiorentoni face.

There's usually a reason why people get banned from Discord servers, forums etc but I've noticed a pattern that it's never the fault of the person who got banned - always the unreasonable, disrespectful "power tripping" moderators or server owners.... 😂

In the ICAO IFR clearances the name of the SID is added as a transition. That is not correct. I already said that long time ago as a tester.

Really like the traffic and the simplicity of how it works. It is a nice experience.

That was a bot we banned (not me by the way, I‘m not a mod), that gives out links to fake Steam gift cards which can potentially contain virus etc. This happens regularly on our Discord. As for real persons, overall we maybe banned a couple in one year, and you were one of those IIRC, right?

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Yes it was me. And I know how easily and unreasonable it may be. So it's not the surprise for me. But why you behave like a bunch of little children? "Great nukers"
