May 27, 20251 yr XP12 is exceptional. After a week of tuning and configuring with help from this forum, I can't believe just how good XP12 looks and feels. The initial 'oh dear, this looks bad' after MSFS 2024, has been replaced with 'why has it taken me so long to give XP12 a good chance'? The initial 'oh dear, this looks bad' after MSFS 2024, has been replaced with 'why has it taken me so long to give XP12 a good chance'? Same! And for that I have MSFS 2024 and 2 forums to thank. MSFS 2024 was so frustrating to use. I was a virtual aircraft technician/mechanic instead of a virtual pilot. I didn't sign up to be an upbaid beta tester. After asking the question of how many simmers have both platforms, I was surprised at the answer and the endorsement. So 2 weeks ago I purchased it. I very much love the flight simulator aspect of X-Plane 12. It taught me what study level truly meant in a PC simulator. I really like this video game aspect of MSFS 2024 (super addictive). It is a shame that X-Plane doesn't have challenges like this. May 27, 20251 yr A week and some add-ons definitely helps XP12. But gotta love Austin’s enthusiasm, has a love for it. MSFS 2024 takes some tweaking also, but IMHO still has the visual advantage and the MSFS 2024 flight physics seems to have caught up to XP12 (perhaps even better).
May 27, 20251 yr Yes but for the moment, MSFS2024 suffers too much from its usability issues, coupled with the bugs and other problems that this "too young" version of the sim still has. In fact I still spend most of my time in MSFS instead of MSFS2024. (but ok, my antique computer doesn't help at all, either...)
May 27, 20251 yr One feature of MSFS I would really like to have in Xp12 are the "integrated checklists" that aircraft developers can support, giving users a very functional and effective way of going through the actual aircraft checklists. Paired with some options for cockpit display they can even show where the spots for accomplishing a given item are, which is really useful in complex cockpits or those that we aren't familiar with... They can also auto-complete. MSFS has some really handy features which were a very nice addition. May 27, 20251 yr There are provisions in X-Plane to do everything that you can do in other sims, too. From missions to careers, from interactive checklists to walkarounds. Everything can be done by means of plugins and some clever coding, there is nothing in X-Plane that would stop someone from doing it. The difference to other sims is that in X-Plane, often these things don´t come as part of the default software. There are not enough people working at X-Plane to have made these features, the few people working at LR concentrate on getting the "core" of the simulator right, there is no free dev time to implement these ancillary features. Everyone has different priorities, and for every feature like the above implemented, someone will say "Ugh, I don´t care about X, I wish they would have spent more time on Y instead, now I have to pay for something I really don´t want". For example there are many options for a "career" mode in X-Plane that you can get as add-ons, some free, some paid - yet people hold the lack of a career mode against X-Plane as something "missing from X-Plane, yet the competition has it!". Sometimes all it takes is to type something into the google search bar, try it at some point in time! Edited May 27, 20251 yr by Litjan

I've "invested" in nearly all the Orbx TrueEarth sceneries over the years, and combined with X-Plane's other advantages, they REALLY make all the difference to keep me coming back to the sim time & time again.

I've been in XP12 for about a month and wasn't going to buy much until I knew I would continue using it. Well, I bought a few airports on sale over the weekend and even though I swore I wasn't going to do it (since I recently bought the HS Challenger), I did end up buying the Toliss A-321 + NEO and the KOSP sound pack. I have a shortcut to my space bar to mark it as checked. Many planes like the Q4XP have the checklists on the EFB. Is that what you mean? Here is the AI co-pilot reading out the checklist and you can just hit a keyboard shortcut to mark it off. Video is cued to the relevant spot. May 28, 20251 yr The advantage with xchecklist is you can modify it to suit yourself, and automate it as much as you please. It even reads out for you if you like.
May 28, 20251 yr 2024 will improve for sure and Xplane 12 too, the nice thing about this is that there is no need to choose, you can enjoy both simulators. For racing you have many options as mentioned free or paid, free I can think of for example Xcpl Pilot or FSrconomy paid for example you have AirHauer and Onair and I'm sure I'm forgetting many more.
May 28, 20251 yr Well, I did give a look to xchecklists and it's ancillary plugins, and I did see it in addons like the CL650, but in MSFS as those who use that sim too might know, it's a bit different, for the more, I'd say, didactic. Checklists can not only be selected and followed and get ticked as you progress but for each item if for instance you're picking up a new aircraft you're not yet familiar with, and the necessary Assistance option is selected under the sim options, the spot in the cockpit where that item should be accomplished is highlighted: They started in FS 2020: All REAL PILOTS use checklists - How to use the MSFS 2020 Chceklists. and continue using the new EFB in FS 2024: Unlocking Aircraft Checklists in MSFS 2024: from basic to expert ✈️ I use them sometimes, when I am trying to learn a new aircraft, and they're really handy. Some people tend to go crazy over board with them, usually end up removing half the stuff.
