BBC One News reporter describing them as “fuel control buttons”. 🤨

God, I despair how this once great corporation has dropped its standards so much. 🙄

  • I presume you were referring to my posts there as I seem to be the only person in this thread disputing your claim the aircraft was tankering with 125,000 litres of fuel on board ? What I’m sayin

  • OK, hands up you got me, I’m actually a 15 year old flight simmer pretending to be an airline pilot, however I do have a copy of of the quality wings 787 for P3D

Jon made an accurate statement since he is a pilot of the 787 and knows what is possible and what isn’t. He clearly stated why tankering wasn’t made for the flight in his reply which you seem to have

They would probably call the yoke a steering wheel and the thrust levers the gas pedal! 🫤

I surprised the fuel switches don't have toggle switch safety covers or guards???

do you know how many times over the last 15 years, Ive had to "brown envelope" people in India to get landing permits, over flight permits, PPR and the suchlike.  They are not the angels you might think they are

You would hope someone higher up will point out their mistake. ☹️

They don’t need guards as the switch has to be lifted before it can change mode. It’s a system that has worked perfectly well for many years.

Got it.  Thanks Ray

Looking at that thrust levers assy that was posted,  having to lift the switch to change positions, it would
be difficult to do them both at the same time.

Fuel cuttoff switches have to be pulled and then moved back from their RUN detent. It's not just a "flipping" ...

So, even casually / inadvertently  hitting these levers wouldn't move them from either of their RUN or CUTOFF detents.

"" The engines of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner - which crashed and caused the world's deadliest aviation accident in a decade - were starved of fuel when the engine cutoff switches suddenly flipped mid-flight, according to a preliminary report released Saturday by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB)......According to the report, one pilot is heard on the cockpit voice recorder asking the other "why did he cutoff," to which the other responded that "he did not do so." The voices were not attributed to either pilot Captain Sumeet Sabharwal or co-pilot Clive Kundar.""

I don't even look at news media for aviation related news or information anymore, Juan Browne's blancolirio channelCaptain SteeeveMentour Pilot and Pilot Debrief on YouTube have become more reliable and educational then mainstream media, these four channels are enough to keep you well informed.

Those may be recommended for aviation events but I need to know what’s going on in the world and the UK for everything else. Captain Steeve speaks a lot of sense on an emotive subject. Mentour tends to wait longer until all the facts are known.

Samira Hussain - the BBC’s South Asia Correspondent is the person repeatedly saying “fuel control buttons”. I wish they’d get someone competent to do their reporting.

I still watch news media as well just tend to ignore the aviation reports from them for reasons as you said, they misreport things far too often, therefore I am welling to wait for Juan Browne to do a report over what the news media has to say. My habits are BBC CBC (Canada), RNZ and Stuff (New Zealand) for regular news, I'm avoiding US news for the time being 😁

The in-studio BBC reporter DID correctly refer to them as switches. So I’ll put it down to a correspondent who doesn’t do technical. 🙄

@Matthew Kane, NZ media not available to me. Sometimes I watch CNN for a different perspective. Fox News was dropped by Sky a while back.
