October 10, 2025Oct 10 Commercial Member Personally, I prefer to model the autopilot that's installed in the real aircraft, especially since we write a fully custom autopilot code for each unit, so we can model the quirks of different models. Like the need to trim the aircraft manually in Comanche's STEC-30, or custom NAV intercept logic and realistic GPS integration in Aerostar's Century IV. Seems more interesting than having the same GFC coupled with G1000 in every aircraft. The Century IV is pretty capable: it can intercept VOR radials, follow GPS magenta line, fly ILS or LPV approaches, has CWS button and pitch trim control. About the only thing I'm missing while flying is an altitude preselector, but it can't be interfaced with the autopilot in real life, otherwise we would add one to the panel in the sim. Well, all I can say is that the next A2A aircraft will have a different autopilot than our previous products. 🙂 2 hours ago, ryanbatc said: Actually I tend to get lower performance by quite a bit vs the charts. Conditions are ISA, approx same gross weight as the chart. I'm only seeing 211 ktas. Book says 245.5 edit: Oh I bet these values are in MPH vs knots. Then it's pretty dang close when you divide by 1.15 then! Yes, all the charts in the manual are in MPH. The aircraft should match them pretty well, the speeds, engine power, fuel flow. Best power settings in the manual are for 100 degrees ROP, best economy setting is peak EGT. Michael A2A Simulations

There was an alternative, but I wasn’t drawn to it for a number of reasons. but as it was an extremely High Fidelity addon that filled the same role, I decided to take a gamble on it. Best decision I ever made - many, many hours of enjoyment, and so much depth and many interesting systems/features of which I was previously unaware. I look at A2A addons the same way: a guaranteed highly realistic experience, and fidelity that is second to none, regardless of whether I’d buy the IRL aircraft or not which is a really long way of saying I don’t like the IRL Aerostar, either, but I’d rather vfly any A2A than just about anyone else’s addons, so I’m good with it 🤙 Edited October 10, 2025Oct 10 by UrgentSiesta
October 11, 2025Oct 11 I'm not an airline flyer, I am a VFR/IFR up to a twin as this Aerostar is absolutely perfect as I also love the retro cockpit BUT with the upgrades a real pilot would make, EG GPS etc One upgrade a real world pilot would (I think) also make would be a couple of G5 units, PFD and HSI, now if A2A would model those in the Aerostar, or even their Commanche as well as I'm sure real world pilots would also do that then it's arrived at perfection for me. I did mention this on their discord and Lewis responded with a "watch this space" so I am optimistically hopeful. As a side note, Flysimware do model the G5 units very well in their aircraft so it's doable.

I can't take anything away from A2A but I don't fly the Aerostar as much as the Duke (or the 414, TBM or Comanche) because I'm just not drawn to the real Aerostar much (especially the non pressurized model, featured). I know others will fault this, but I completely understand. I flew the heck out of the A2A V35B in P3D because it was beautifully implemented and I love the plane IRL. I was lucky enough to log my very first hour of instruction in one and I fell in love. I owned the A2A 172 and 182 in P3D as well. Both great implementations, but I very rarely flew the 172. Had a lot of hours in 172s building time IRL. It was an incredibly useful tool which served its purpose for me but I never grew to love it, and this translated to the sim. I did fly the 182 a fair bit more, but again, despite it being a great model it just wasn't a favorite IRL so it spent a lot of time in the virtual hangar. When I returned to simming in MSFS after a few years' layoff, I promised myself I would be more selective in my aircraft purchases and not end up with so many hangar queens. The only A2A plane available was the Comanche and again, not a plane I cared for IRL. Despite knowing how good a model it would be, I didn't buy because I knew my RW preferences would come into play and it was unlikely to see much flight time. Lesson learned. The Aerostar, on the other hand, has always fascinated me. Different, funky and interesting with solid performance. I'm looking forward to returning to the A2A fold with it. Now, if only A2A would bring my beloved V35 to MSFS... Pretty unlikely, I know. Scott

Still installed on my drive 👍 I’m looking forward to their Civ Mustang in MSFS, but at the rate we’re going, and the next one confirmed to be a totally new airframe, well, I’ll continue to be looking forward to it for some time to come 😑
