Interesting, it looks like this scenery has DRM:

Just saw that too. Lande3 are the folks that sell the vRAAS add on. There is no DRM with that that I see.

Changes it from instabuy to wait a bit for me...

One thing they can do is just release it on marketplace. I hate marketplace but getting sceneries from there isn’t the WORST in the world. They’ll have their precious encryption without the need to lo

I have reduced the file for a lot of textures without compromise the visual in this performance update that is coming very soon. For sure will help. Regards, Matteo

They just lost me forever. Orbx can now go pound sand. I would have paid $100 for this but now they’ve lost me as a customer.

Fenix, iFly, FSLabs all have their modules running in parallel with the sim. Don't see any reasons why scenery developers cannot to this as well. However, I'd rather prefer that this module would start automatically.

Count me out as well.
Plenty of other major airports around.
100 % certainty it will be hacked anyways.

What is the price tag?

I have a few questions about this DRM.

  1. Does this app need to be ran everytime I want to fly into or out of Atlanta?

  2. Will it run in the EXE.XML when I start the sim or do I need to start it each time?

  3. What if I fly over Atlanta or need to devert during an event and I didn't start it before I started my sim?

  4. If I don't have it running, do I have the default Atlanta? Notes says it auto disables default Atlanta?

If they wanted it secure, they should have just uploaded to the Marketplace as those files are encrypted.

Definitely a hard pass for me! While I don’t mind entering a serial number to activate a product, I refuse to keep a program opened external to the sim just to use a single airport.

They run when I’m using the product. This DRM implies it’ll automatically start each time the sim loads regardless if I’m going to Atlanta. What if the client closes during my flight? Am I screwed when I try to land and I’ll be met with blurry textures?

Authenticate the product when I buy it and install it. It’s that simple.

My other guess is that developer used the materials/photos for scenery creation that have active copyright protection. Hence, it might not be his/her decision.

I believe those modules only load up automatically when using their aircraft, and are needed because certain elements require outside resources to function (at least in the case of Fenix). Plus if we need one for every bit of scenery that’s a lot of clogs plugging the drain.

Also a consequence of this will be a substantial increase in support tickets “why is my scenery not working.”

I agree. I'm just trying to understand the reasoning. Also, I'm a bit puzzled that all DRM issues should be solved not with the developer, but with DRM provider. Something new in the sim-world.

Exactly this…. Imagine a day when Orbx, inibuilds, flytampa, mkstudios decide they want their own 3rd party DRM app running constantly to run their scenery - because we all know they sure as hell won’t all use the same one because of the “we do it better” mindset.

We already run a platform that is susceptible to WASM crashes, CTDs, memory leaks, etc… I don’t want even a small program risking stability for my long haul because of some silly DRM that needs to run even when I’m not flying to that airport.

This could in fact be an Orbx thing that they plan to roll out to all their products eventually. We’ll see.

I understand using it with planes but imagine if more scenery developers started using this. Like you said, iFly, Fenix and FSLabs use this. Even if I’m flying the PMDG these apps are running in the background.

Imagine having dozens of scenery DRM’s running in the background, regardless if you fly to one of those airports or not. What if I forgot to start it before my SIM. They should have just put it on the Marketplace.

Alienate your loyal customers to (most likely unsuccessfully) prevent people from using the software who wouldn't pay for it anyways... sounds like a winning private equity strategy. 😑

Apps add to the performance load on the computer, no matter how small— If sceneries start needing apps to run that’s gonna “be a no from me dog.” Enword not allowedtification Continues every day.

Orbx already has the most absolute worst garbage store app in this hobby. They’ve definitely lost me as a customer.
