July 21, 2025Jul 21 I've got a 14900k system that is highly overclocked on the RAM (8400MT/s) and I also have a 7800X3d system that just runs OOB 6400MT/s RAM. With the default sim and no add-ons the 2 systems are pretty much equal, The more add-ons I install the more the AMD system slows down compared to the Intel System. The AMD System with all the add-ons installed suffers far more stutters than the Intel system. I plan next week to swap a 9800X3d into the AMD system and see how it fares, It should do a lot better I think. While the Intel system is smoother for me it took considerable effort to get there, In order to run the RAM at 8400MT/s that itself took water-cooling the RAM. (Feel free to PM if this is too far off-topic!) The first thing it takes is a board capable which generally is a board with only 2 DIMM Slots. I use an ASUS Apex Encore with this https://www.icemancooler.com/page98.html?_l=en&product_id=337&product_category=73 When pushing DDR5 speed's and pushing the timings tight and the TREFI high they can become unstable past 40c. With the RAM Watercooled they never go over 2c of the water temp so they usually sit around 27c. The fiddly part isn't the water-cooling it is the week's on end of testing the RAM itself. Most people cannot spend that time but for me it was part of what I love to do. --Sean Hart
July 21, 2025Jul 21 Ah RAM cooling brings me back to a prior build, it’s more common than you think … although I didn’t do it on current sim build, but also not using my Vapor Chiller either: Even 20-30F (down to dew point) below ambient, I can’t honestly say I was able to achieve better timings. These days with DDR5 2 DIMM boards are king and speed is more important than timings for the most part but there are some secondary timings that benefit from tightening up. Airport location and vendor will have a significant impact on RAM and VRAM 3. Weather was used, this will have impact on RAM, VRAM, and FPS 4. Other DLC scenery within LOD will impact RAM, VRAM, FPS 5. Setting were all modified while on the ground in the same location (no actual flight) 6. The AI traffic varied in density during testing 7. No testing was done at night or dawn/dusk 8. The view was static, no 360 pan after each setting change so objects weren’t being loaded in memory Rob. The vid was to show what settings impact FPS, Main thread and VRAM. No more, no less. Your list won’t make a 20+ Gb difference in VRAM for my 4090. You have seen 30+ Gb use of VRAM while my pc’s have never exceeded 20 Gb of VRAM. Nice that you brought this up incl pic. Both my pc’s have liquid cooling for the CPU’s. My server even has a push/pull system . Using LC for RAM or Graphics card I never did. The difference in performance regarding OC is little compared to OC the CPU. So I always buy RAM that by default has fast timings and the Graphics card I OC just a little. Manufacturiers are asking a lot of more money for each couple 20 MHz more a Graphics card will run, with almost little gains in FPS. And you can do it yourself too. Rob I wrote that with everything maxed out on my system in 2x 4K + Live Traffic + heavy addon airports I never saw more those high amounts of VRAM. It never ever went above 20 Gb. Why you are seeing these high amounts of VRAM I do not know. What you are trying to put in my mouth about Fake is your responsebility. With such a comment I can do nothing. And you don’t have to show me anything. I have it all onscreen here.
