July 25, 2025Jul 25 Just released from Just Flight is "Fly The Line -Short Haul". Caters for flights that don't exceed 6 hours. Looks a good replacement for "A Pilots Life " since development has more or less come to a halt. Other New release news: MK Studios have just released YPAD Adelaid International Pyreegue releasing EGBB Birmingham on 1st August. Another gem from this developer. July 26, 2025Jul 26 I'm interested in this. I use APLv2, but this looks fun. Would like to hear from anyone who can compare to APLv2. 9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

I am just setting it up now. I have found it has a lot more options than APL, and you can create multiple profiles. Thing I like the most is you can have free mode or career mode and switch between the two. July 26, 2025Jul 26 Thanks, I’m likely going to pick this up later this evening. Will post my impressions as well. 9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen
July 26, 2025Jul 26 As a beta tester for FTL, I can assure everyone that this program is far more full of options than a Pilot's Life.

July 26, 2025Jul 26 The only thing I don't like is you have to change the sim date to match the app (as opposed to the other way around). When you start your career, it makes you start on the 1st of the current month. Not THAT big a deal but I hate not using real times and dates. Otherwise, I think it has great potential. Just doing my first flight, so far very impressed. Starting the app first and when you load your aircraft into the sim, it automatically sets date and time. It would be good to have an option to fly in real time. That is something I would never use, first thing I do when I start a flight is set the time of day. Edited July 26, 2025Jul 26 by Bobsk8
July 26, 2025Jul 26 Author It does not work well with BATC in regards to weather. It does not read historical weather so lack of accuracy is diminished. Need an option to use real time or historical of no more than 24 hours. Not sure that would ever be changed as that would defeat the purpose of the application. It needs to know if you arrived late or on time... On one hand I cant say I love that but on the other hand comparing to APL I always thought it was silly you can just fly the legs whenever you want. The schedule generated would have random times with no flow into the next flight. I would fly a night one then fly a morning one right after it. Eventually I was just flying them all in real time. Also there was no designation of "days" on the schedule. In real life a schedule that touched 3 days would be designated as a 3 day trip. APL its just all over the place with 10 flights at random times so basically a glorified mission generator with an airline logo slapped on it. I was about to purchase this Fly The Line but I will hold off for a few reasons.... 1) It is being called short haul edition. So does that mean if I want long haul then Ill have to purchase again? Will it be a separate product? I didn't see anything in the FAQ that addresses that. its 40 USD im not willing to part with when I have questions. How can I fly for some of these airlines with long haul flights if the program wont assign them for a schedule? Im just stuck being a short haul pilot for UAL or BAW? What about airlines that aren't necessarily long haul but still have longer flights like jetBlue? I dont expect to get a realistic schedule in this program flying for them since they do alot of transcon flights within the US that touch 6 hours. 2) schedules that return to base everyday. This is completely unrealistic unless you work for Allegiant Air in the US. Starting off as a new First Officer having trips that get you home everyday is not something that would happen in real life. One of the most grueling things about aviation is being away for days at a time. There are some people who do bid schedules to be home everyday but they usually go very senior. Also a trip that finishes in base wouldn't be a multi day trip. That is just a 1 day trip in real life so to get a 5 day trip in this program for example and be at home everyday isnt realistic at all. I dont fly for Virtual Air Canada / VAC but their schedule pairing system is about as real as it can get for generating a real life pilot schedule over several days. Now there is disregard for FAR 117 duty and rest rules but thats fine because this is at home simulator entertainment. For their multi day trips there is fictional hotel information provided with fictional phone numbers and if I recall even report times for the next day on the schedule that is generated. This program does none of that. Id love to get a little more information. Most of the screenshots are concerning the background filler like decorating your house

Same here, I love this kind of programmes but I don't understand these limitations on the maximum flight hours, I think they are absurd. I don't know if I've misunderstood but I don't like the fact that you are limited to 16 aircraft.
July 26, 2025Jul 26 Following as I'm very keen to find a replacement for APLV2 which seems to have hit a dead end in terms of development and is showing its age. Agree with some of the comments above about flight time duration - Not sure why they would limit the hours or aircraft type.... whats the advantage in that for the user?
