I am assuming it is possible, and probably not that difficult. It wouldn't require a redesign from scratch, which would be necessary for a unified SDK. Those are interesting assumptions, given your admitted lack of understanding of the subject. Apart from convenience, why do you believe they are true? August 3, 2025Aug 3 Let me expand on that. I'm guessing the original MSFS was done for the PC, and then either ported to XBOX, or possible was originally designed to work on both platforms. I'm also guessing that a port from XBOX to PS5 wouldn't be as difficult as a port from PC to XBOX. Since I don't know anything about either platform, I could be wrong. We had the PC version released first, hence my first guess above. As for my real world experience, it's four decades of being elbow-deep in code. The first half with people willing to pay for my expertise, the second half various personal projects. My first personal project after retiring is mentioned here: https://www.angelfire.com/games3/fng2k/modsadds.html Hook Edited August 3, 2025Aug 3 by LHookins Larry Hookins Oh! I've already talked about why MSFS won't show up on PS5. You are reading my posts, right? WASM... for a flight simulator... right, sure, why not. I haven't looked at WASM in many years. But I was introduced to the concept through a C compiler for the Apple 2 in the early 80's. It could compile to native 6502 or to an interpreted object code, which ran considerably slower. Quote WASM isn't about speed or performance, but a compilation target. The idea is to be able to run C++ (or other) routines within a web browser [etc] Very useful for what it's useful for. But a flight simulator? The very concept is so alien to everything I know that I couldn't conceive of it. But given that it's Microsoft, I can believe it. There's nothing I could say to make a difference. Go find a systems level programmer and discuss it with him. <sigh> Hook Edited August 3, 2025Aug 3 by LHookins Larry Hookins Oh! August 3, 2025Aug 3 Of course the relative position of this thread on the front page of the Hangar Chat shifts up and down. This morning, bleary eyed, I read: Does Captain Sim impact the flight simmer’s choices? And thought, cool, I'll have a look at that later, and now realize, duh, it's the same thread I already posted in yesterday, not some different thread. For whatever reason no one I've ever shown this photo to that I snapped in PRC, Colonel Sanders under the hammer and sickle, thought it was funny. I did when I saw it, and still do. Skirting politics and remaining vague, I'm not entirely for or against capitalism or communism. Like pizzas with different toppings, each country has its own blend on how it implements things, and one may have one's own particular preferences. But I don't like strict and authoritarian. I don't really like Singapore that much for example, no matter how clean and safe it is. But it's also not terrible, I do actually like it a bit. I think rather than capitalism or communism, flight simming would get better if both the developers and the users fully admitted it's just a total niche market and that's it. That's neither good nor bad. I just think we can't always have our cake and eat it. Got to accept compromises.
