Many Americans say Europe because they have no idea what the names of the individual countries are.

Do you know all American states? I have a hard time locating and naming them. It goes both ways I guess...

Nah, then we would we end up with subpar service like in Europe. Been to Europe more times than I can count, and restaurant service is generally very poor!

That's quite a short-sighted view, lol.

This topic is drifting a bit from flight simulation though, see what you did @scotchegg🙃

  • They’re asking if customers would like to give them extra cash for no extra service. It seems like a daft encroachment of US tipping culture where it’s really not warranted.

There may be no harm in it, but I find it a bit crass to ask for tips. Oh, and whilst we are on the subject, restaurants in the US should pay their staff a decent wage rather than expecting them to "m

Yes. But if I had to make a list, I might miss a few.

And for most states, I know exactly where they are within the US.

Impressive 👍 I certainly can't name them all, let alone locate them.

You are not obligated indeed but in my experience, best not go back to the same diner tomorrow if you didn't leave a tip today.

Like in Starbucks or groceries store a screen offers you to tip? You always tip and afraid to come back next time?

Ultimately, it makes no difference to me (not that I am looking to purchase anything from them anyway). As others said, if you want to add a "tip" do so. If not, no worries. In all honesty, I think that if it was intentional to put in that option, they should have used the term, "donate" instead of "tip". That's probably more accurate and it might not draw in the same amount of criticism that it is currently getting.

Trying to follow you logic...And when you say Africa is because you don't know names of all African countries?  LOL

I don't say "Africa" unless I'm talking about the entire continent. Otherwise I use the name of the country.

So it is wrong to say European because you don't say so, and therefore,   Americans should use  "European" because they can't name any country in Europe?  Are there fallacies of appeal to believe and hasty generalization on display? LOL

This thread is so pointless. Tipping is an option on that e-commerce platform, and they left it on. Who cares? Only AVSIM.

It is wrong because a restaurant is Sweden is not the same as a restaurant in France or in Greece. It is dumb to think you can judge restaurants all over Europe just by what you have seen in one or two countries.

I was also surprised to see it. IIRC, it’s the first time in this milieu. And I, too, find it somewhat off-putting.

However, it had no effect on my decision to buy, nor will it affect a future purchase decision.

The “tip” I gave them was buying at full price - something I almost never do.

The hastly generalization is thinking restaurants all over Europe are the same.
