MSFS is it’s own worst enemy

Featured Replies

As a MSFS2020 user I am now stuck in an upgrade ‘no man’s land” and it’s now at the point where I won’t/can’t spend any money on the hobby - which is counter to what the developers want.

have purchased aircraft and scenery for 2020 some of which I’m not sure can be updated for 2024, so I’m staying with 2020 for now.

But because I know that 2024 is the sim that will now be the main focus, there is no way I will invest anymore into 2020.

In a similar way, when I am forced onto 2024, I will either be so late into the sim that it will be pointless buying addons or there will be talk of an even newer version.

I know new versions come out all the time, but investing in flight sims is different because of the number of addons and investment made. so sadly I’m now stuck where my money won’t be going into the hobby I enjoy.

So, your main gripe is really that you don't have the money to properly migrate to a more capable sim platform with all the add-ons you want? I can empathise with that, been there in the past.  B

  • Never looked back? Then you might be lost if you are reading/posting in this MSFS forum. Let me help you guide you to where you probably prefer to hang out Link

  • I just want people to be aware that there are other excellent simulators out there.... especially for the OP.... maybe he's happy using FSX or P3D...  But 2020 is great, same with 2024, and also same

I think there’s a thread like this every few days.

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.

I think people need to just stick to what makes them happy and not think too deep into it. It’s not a sin to have both sims side by side and upgrade your products which don’t offer free upgrades as you go along financially.

Im a new user and it too 36  hours just to download the sim (2020) and I have a 500mb connection. it just get looping  deleting and reinstalling  parts.

Almost all scenery add-ons for MSFS 2020 will work in MSFS 2024. There are few scenery add-ons that don’t work in MSFS 2024.

The point is that there is new sceneries arriving in the marketplace all the time but who is going to buy it when MS can turn off the platform at any time.

it’s an inherent problem with cloud based services, not just MSFS but I don’t have money to waste on products I will lose. It’s a shame for those who don’t have money to spare

I don't see it as wasting money even if I only get to enjoy it for a few years. Life is too short to worry about such things.

I can empathise with that, been there in the past.  But do recognise its not a problem with the sim.

Your point is that you don't want 2024 and now you don't like 2020 either? Is that it? You feel disillusioned with MSFS in general?

Just a small note you may want to quote who you posted or responding to and it will cut out much confusion.

The OP is letting off steam that their personal situation doesn't permit them to upgrade freely - in essence the advances in technology are outpacing their financial ability to keep abreast of them.

Can see it both ways.  You and I are clearly fortunate enough to have the ability to enjoy it.  Not everyone around the world does.

It probably means the addon developers don’t make as many sales that they could, which affects the whole community. It’s a shame as some is very good but I could spend thousands and in a few years lose the lot.

Its a different league of financial commitment than just buying a new version of FIFA every year

Sure but you cut your cloth etc etc. And anyway, if it's a choice between feeding the children and the Aerostar .............

This is made slightly harder by companies like IniBuilds throwing MSFS 2020 into the garbage bin way sooner than they should have done. I would love a copy of the IniBuilds EGKK London Gatwick scenery, but unfortunately they are not interested in the huge number of customers who still use MSFS 2020 on a regular basis.

I say this again....just about every other airport addon developer is releasing MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 versions of their new airports. Only IniBuilds (who are almost certainly in a better position than most) are refusing to do it.

I think you are missing the point. If devs don’t sell enough addons because people are less confident to buy because of financial outlay or uncertainty because of lack of news, devs will stop producing so many addons.

That in turn will affect those with deep pockets as there will be less available. It’s about the long term sustainability of something we all enjoy

But they are so, moot point 😉
