MSFS is it’s own worst enemy

We just need to make sure we are not missing the general point here.
We were told, (by the God Jorg himself) that virtually all 2020 add-ons would be compatible with 2024.  That hasn't quite worked out well up to now has it?

So basically, the premise was, although you are paying to upgrade your sim, you won't have to pay again to upgrade your addons (unless you want the improved capability of the new sim).

Great!  This is what the vast majority of simmers would be happy with.  The problem is, this outcome has only been partially successful as we know.

At least Asobo continue to work on compatibility issues with each release, but it has created a bit of a backlash and some trust has been lost.
For instance, if they say this again for 2028 (if it happens), a lot of people will have a tendency to not believe them.

So, your main gripe is really that you don't have the money to properly migrate to a more capable sim platform with all the add-ons you want? I can empathise with that, been there in the past.  B

  • Never looked back? Then you might be lost if you are reading/posting in this MSFS forum. Let me help you guide you to where you probably prefer to hang out Link

  • I just want people to be aware that there are other excellent simulators out there.... especially for the OP.... maybe he's happy using FSX or P3D...  But 2020 is great, same with 2024, and also same

Bob, there isn't a single addon I used in 2020 which doesn't work in 2024. Not one. My 2024 Community folder is 106GB. Do you want me to list them? And I haven't had to pay to upgrade any of them.

How about PMDG aircraft and GSX?

Neither of which I use (including the 777 which of course, works in 2024). Next?

So your only looking at your own situation, not that of the wider market.

I would like to buy another 737 but why would I when I would have to pay an upgrade fee, yet it’s not yet available in 2024. It’s stifling the market and purchase options

So you're only looking at your own situation? If you got the 737 upgrade for free would you upgrade to 2024?

You had no problem buying a new game/simulator but do not want to pay for an upgrade to a PMDG product for a small fee? what is the irony in that?

Yeah, I agree they dished out a blinder with the ' virtually all 2020 add-ons would be compatible with 2024'.

As it happens, they ARE mostly compatible in that they dont cause CTDs.  Asobo should have qualified their statement about compatibility with the caveat that they may not function exactly the same as in 2020.

I think you are missing the point. If devs don’t sell enough addons because people are less confident to buy because of financial outlay or uncertainty because of lack of news, devs will stop producing so many addons.

That in turn will affect those with deep pockets as there will be less available. It’s about the long term sustainability of something we all enjoy

You might be right in the final analysis, but how does that help you practically in the now?
One can philosophize the same way as you do here about life: What's the use to eat and drink everyday while you inevitably die in the end?

I'd say just buy MSFS2024 and a couple of your favorite add-ons and enjoy what you can enjoy. Don't overthink it, life is too short for that.
Just saying.

True, it was mainly in the early days, but I suppose a lot of the damage was done then.  I was quite surprised to find the PDMG 737-800 was flying fine for me the other day.

Yes.  I did nothing technical with it like an ILS approach, but it hand flew alright, trimmed up nicely, and I put it down exactly where I wanted it.  Third party livery.

I simply drag and dropped it over to MSFS2024 Community.  I was surprised.   What are people's gripes with it?  Is it more technical / deep system stuff do you know?

I don't know. Chickster seems to think it doesn't work in 2024 at all, unless he is talking about another 737.  There is one by iFly but I don't think you have to pay to upgrade to 2024.

The 737 series for 2020 work intermittently in 2024 but you must start on RWY, engines running, or that has been my experience.  Flights are not always successful but can be.   That too is my experience.  Blue Skies,
