October 2, 2025Oct 2 Or will it crasch the sim before it starts like it did in msfs 2020? Can i run the newest NVIDA driver in msfs 2024 without the sim shutting down half way through the startup procedure like in 2020? Best regards Per
October 2, 2025Oct 2 Works fine for me in 2024. Have no idea about 2020, I don’t have that installed anymore. 9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen
October 2, 2025Oct 2 In 5 years I only had one driver that caused a crash and that is at least 2-3 years ago. 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0

October 2, 2025Oct 2 Author No, i am not going to use the NVIDA app, just the graphic Installer... So i can use the latest Nvidia driver, without the app, in 2024, without any startup issues like i had in 2020?
October 2, 2025Oct 2 Nobody can really answer that for you. I haven't seen any reported issues though. 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2 - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base

Why are you expecting explicitly "the sim shutting down half way through the startup procedure like 2020". As far as I remember it could be the well known bug of (an outdated) nvidia app when MSFS202 is set to use DirectX11. Vincent B. October 2, 2025Oct 2 Interestingly both my XPlane installations, 11 & 12, have started crashing on start up.

The nvidia drivers over the last 8 months have been very finicky, especially with 50xx cards. Could be the difference between a good and a bad time. October 3, 2025Oct 3 If you're referring to the 581.42 driver, yes, it caused problems for me (RTX 2060 Super). I normally don't update video drivers unless absolutely necessary, but I updated to the latest because of a bug fix for one of my business programs. MSFS2020 crashed 3 times in the next 4 flights. As I hadn't been having many issues prior to that update, I reverted to the 581.08 driver and all is working well again. Randall Rocke
October 3, 2025Oct 3 I usually update GPU drivers as soon as available, BUT nVidia is the only exception to my rule. I haven’t updated nVidia drivers in several months for a few reasons: MSFS 2024 works very well on my older drivers There was nothing in the release notes over the past few months that indicated any changes in regards to MSFS 2024 The last time I updated nVidia drivers many months ago I got nothing but a black screen. I eventually resolved the issue by plugging in a DP cable direct from monitor to GPU … but turns out the real issue was that nVidia would default to 240Hz refresh rate and my HDMI splitter was only good to 120Hz, so no image. No idea why nVidia defaulted to such a high refresh rate?? My word of advice in this specific case, if you aren’t having any issues with nVidia drivers, don’t upgrade. Only upgrade if you see something specific that addresses MSFS 2024 … of course, I’m assuming MSFS 2024 is the only sim/game you use on your PC. If you have other games then check the release notes and see if anything applies to you. Edited October 3, 2025Oct 3 by SayAgain Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. - Carl Sagan
October 3, 2025Oct 3 Did a short MSFS2024 flight test with this new 581.42 (nvidia app updated to 11.0.5.266) without any problem encountered (5070ti). I also spend more time in the MSFS2020 in Dev Mod Scenery Editor, all good as well. So far so good. She seems OK... Edited October 3, 2025Oct 3 by vbazillio Vincent B.
