Scenery update - what are your (realistic) expectations?

heh heh heh. I'll take "testy" = "quoting the source" over the mindset that thinks F14 = "lifting body" any day!! 🙂

and I’ll say it again, if I HAVE to pay extra for great scenery, I’d much rather pay it TO Laminar Research, or at least THROUGH the pending XP Market Place.

then I’d know that at least some of that money i spend goes directly to improving the sim itself. 👍

Id say a healthy scene has a large volume of high quality free stuff and a decent selection of outstanding quality paid stuff.

We have that now, I hope it stays that way, just raising the bar by what is meant by high/outstanding quality.

I still remember when kmgm payware for free dropped, I was blown away by what they showed possible with the new tech in xp11

April Fools idea: Laminar announces the next-gen scenery, but it's flat mesh and the only texture is of Austin's face.

The F-14's body design provided significant additional lift, particularly when the wings were fully swept.

Perhaps not the perfect definition of Lifting Body, but close enough for government work.

The more flexibility, the better. And if I can buy the outstanding quality paid stuff from LR's store, even mo bettah. 🙂

Will be great to see what they're coming up with as I'm sure it's a significant improvement, just as the non-ground-texture scenery upgrades have been.

Yes yes. Precisely the type of loose, aloof outlook that can land a company in court.

Here's hoping that LR can figure a way to thread the needle between the lawyers and customer's satisfaction to get you some streaming ortho. I personally don't need it, nor do I want to be tied down to, say.... Azure outages. Ortho4xp is plenty sufficient for the tiles that deserve it. No doubt that whatever they are cooking will be better than the current default sim.

I rest my case.

I dont know why we need streaming autho. How many subscriptions does one need, worlds gone mad.

If it was high quality, updated, cleaned and color-corrected, I wouldn't have a problem with this as I understand the work and cost involved in doing so. However, I also think it should be an optional choice, and people should be allowed to use their own if they want to. The nice part about X-Plane is that it allows developers a lot of control of the scenery, and I'm sure going forward it will be no different. On the flip-side, 5 years later and MS still offer no easy way to modify the base MFS scenery without using hacky, non-supported tools that can easily break with an update etc, however at least the imagery is streamed for free and for most this is enough.

I find the xplane scenery fine. Are things i hope they improve but its not ruining my experience. Just glad they added so much stuff we can use for gateway aiports. Might have to revisit a few

Or how about XP 13 limits the flying area to a small but well crafted patch of the world...hmm, maybe Hawaii? One island in the chain should be sufficient.

It would be free-to-play, but additional scenery could be DLC for purchase.

It is not needed, but highly desirable for realism.  I fly VFR mostly in the UK so find the current default scenery to be very poor.  SimHeaven injects many ground features mentioned in Poolys or the AFE VFR guide.

Ortho will then show other ground features not in the SimHeaven package.  I hope the next default scenery will surpass and update what SimHeaven has given X-Plane.

Make sure to gamify it and take it off the shelf after a year or two because nobody cared.
