  • Days ago... There's also a tweak available at Flightsim.to to reduce their textures size from 4k/2k to 1k, very useful to improve FPS

Anyone know why this mod is suddenly "unavailable" in Flightsim.to ?

Flightsim.to had a mod that downgraded textures to help frame rates.

It's been removed from Flightsim.to

Bummer. Were there any other updates in between to justify this removal?

There was an October 17th update, but unsure if that was the issue.  Wonder if it had something to do with FSLTL (copywrite?)

Hello, is there any way I contact some higher role in this server to talk about something really important? (edited)Thursday, October 30, 2025 12:52 PM

Sure, what's this "something"?

labadai4oI'm new here, say hi! — 10/30/2025 2:38 PMThursday, October 30, 2025 2:38 PM

I'm owner of the FSLTL downgraded textures on a website that people use to share different mods and I want to talk about it

BirdmanRS — 10/30/2025 2:40 PMThursday, October 30, 2025 2:40 PM

We don't provide permission for anyone to redistribute our liveries in any form.  If you want to publish the tools someone could use to do the downscaling themselves, we'd have no issue with that.

Yeah but the problem is what is the point of removing my mod when the people need to have FSLTL already installed. Im just providing the Airplanes folder

54Lewis — 10/30/2025 2:57 PMThursday, October 30, 2025 2:57 PM

You are redistributing FSLTL created texture files created by us, without permission. simple really...so you don't actually "own" the content you are publishing (edited)Thursday, October 30, 2025 2:58 PM

BirdmanRS — 10/30/2025 3:00 PMThursday, October 30, 2025 3:00 PM

And publishing your tools/scripts that allow them to do that downscaling could continue to "help" people that feel they need to do that.  But you do not have permissions to redistribute our liveries.. (edited)Thursday, October 30, 2025 3:00 PM

54Lewis — 10/30/2025 3:00 PMThursday, October 30, 2025 3:00 PM

Correct, because no permission were sought or granted...no matter your intentions good or otherwise. A wide team has spent countless hours creating these texture files, our copyright notice on the website clearly states no redistribution (edited)Thursday, October 30, 2025 3:41 PM

Muad'Dib — 10/30/2025 3:14 PMThursday, October 30, 2025 3:14 PM

Well no doubt about the copyrights, but my question to the FSLTL developer team is why you don't provide options for 1k,2k,4k base model textures during installation via the FBW installer?

This is highly requested by the community without any doubts and wouldn't make any additional content on flightsim.to necessary.

[3:17 PM]Thursday, October 30, 2025 3:17 PM

And I think you know the reasons: storage size, loading times, frame rates, stuttering on heavy traffic airports (edited)Thursday, October 30, 2025 3:18 PM

BirdmanRS — 10/30/2025 3:25 PMThursday, October 30, 2025 3:25 PM

Yes, we've heard the feedback, and our response has always been, its very low on our priority list.

We already have issues with packaging and releasing Base Models due to restrictions and FBW installer app limitations that we're trying to work through.  Offering one or more versions of Base Models adds work, time, and storage requirements on our end, and with our very small team, we choose to focus on other things that are also highly requested by the community.

Finally, the tools are available for people to do the downsizing themselves if they feel that is something they need to do for any of the reasons you list.  We're not preventing the community to make whatever changes they want to their install of Base Models.  But we don't provide permission for other to redistribute our content we have spent thousands of hours creating, for free.

[3:27 PM]Thursday, October 30, 2025 3:27 PM

And if someone, like the person above, wants to publish their tools and/or scripts they created to downsize the liveries, they can absolutely do that as those are of their creation.  And I can see where providing those tools to the community would be a benefit to those that are looking for it.

Muad'Dib — 10/30/2025 3:41 PMThursday, October 30, 2025 3:41 PM

Fair enough that it is at least on your work list.

I can understand that you have other more important things to work on.

Problem about the tools is that there is no easy way to convert the textures. I think you need at least 3 different software's to download and to follow the process precisely to downscale the textures without any problems. A nice tool would be a "one click" tool to convert the textures, which does not exist at the moment. So beginners as me and many others will stuck with the standard textures.

BirdmanRS — 10/30/2025 3:43 PMThursday, October 30, 2025 3:43 PM

Maybe the user above can share, via their flightsim.to page or elsewhere, how they do it.  Provide the steps, or tools, if they created one, etc.  Again, for those looking for it, providing the know-how, steps or tools/scripts to accomplish the "thing" could be helpful to the community without redistribution of our content.

When I update FSLTL, do older textures or models go missing?
Like in AIG, when Lufthansa doesn't operate the A343 or A346 anymore or when KLM replaces their 737 with A320s, AIG doesn't have them anymore as they get deleted.
Is this the case with FSLTL too or do new variants like the A320 just get added?

What? You think FsLTL was wrong to tell this person not to take the thousands of hours of work they’ve done (and for free, may I add) and simply claim it?

The common sense here would be for the person making the mod to make the tools and scripts available so we can use it. They don’t want to do that because they worked to make it, but they are happy to take someone else’s work.

Why can the mod be released without the models? You should ask the creator to release that.

Also, it doesn’t matter what you or I think. Copyright law is well settled and any legitimate website (like flightsim.to) has to follow the law or else they can get shutdown or sued. Pirate sites don’t care about this. But real companies have to.

9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

Trust me when I say I've been on the other side of this discussion: some repaints I did for the TDS727 appeared in a package at Rikooo without crediting me or any other of the repainters involved. Did I make a fuss about that? NO. End of armchair lawyering.

PS: I was actually ranting about the fact FSLTL stubbornly refuse to release 1k/2k/4k versions of their base pack, as if it would require 10 times the storage they have. Knowing a thing or two about textures, it's easy to see that the required additional storage is just 33% of what they have now. It's obvious FSLTL doesn't want to see that.

Well, you chose to grant them the license to distribute by not doing anything. That’s perfectly fine and a valid choice that you made for your own reasons.

FsLtL chose not to give them a license, also a valid choice made for their own reasons. One is not better than the other.

As to why they don’t do lower res textures, they have given a reason. I don’t know if that’s a good reason or not, but given that they are the only real free alternative besides AIG (which has its own issues), I’d say they have earned the right to do things in their own way.

Nothing stops a group of people from making a new FSltl.. do all the work from scratch and get it done.

9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

It's a shame lower resolution textures are still low on their priority list, surely the download numbers of that mod (before it was correctly taken down) and the constant discussions elsewhere should be proof enough that they're warranted for more urgent prioritisation.

It's ok to do it yourself, but it is a bit of a faff and takes a little while, be good if FSLTL took more notice with this area.
