BATC AI Traffic Density

Featured Replies

I'm very much having mixed results with this.   I've got parked traffic slider set to 7, arrival and departures set to 9.   At times, it's awesome, most of the time, not so much.  Yesterday at KSEA at 8AM local, 3/4 of the gates were full and I was number 5 for takeoff.   Pretty realistic except that during the 30 minutes I was on the ground loading, I think at most, 3 aircraft landed (including a Cessa 172, first time I've seen GA aircraft).    The day before, at KLGA, again 8AM local, maybe 1/4 of the gates were filled and in the 30 minutes I was on the ground, not a single aircraft departed or arrived.   I tried rebooting BATC to see if it would make a difference, no change.

Any idea if this issue can be improved at my end?

I have my sliders at 6-10-10-10. Most of the time things seem realistic and traffic flow is decent. However, I do experience times when either dep or arr are fewer or even rare i.e. almost nonexistent. I haven't figured out a formula to remedy this because it seems random.

I haven't asked on the discord yet because it isn't a big problem due to the infrequency. Though it would be nice to know what is actually driving the issue when it appears. Have you asked on the batc discord? I haven't yet...

Win11 / CPU: 10980K at 5.0GHz / Memory: 32Gb at 3600 MHz / GPU:  RTX 3090 / Display: Benq x3000i pj on Silver Ticket 110" screen

I agree, since last updates the traffic has been less and many quirks like wrong taxi instructions and disappearing aircraft (CYYZ, CYLW, CYWG).  I am tired of submitting logs.  It seemed to work better 2 updates ago.  Oh well still in early access, but I sure hope they figure it all out.  It is a love hate relationship right now.

I haven't asked on Discord because I don't use that platform but as I understand it, others have and the Dev's have pretty much ignored the issue.

It truly is a love-hate relationship.   Right now, I'm primarily using BATC for AI traffic.   If anyone else comes up with a better solution, I'll be so happy to drop these guys.   They keep adding "features" while still not getting some very basic issues addressed.

One step forward, one step back, it's the BATC way I guess.

How do you guys get on when on final approach?

I find BATC hammers my frame rate from short final to parking, it's fine at all other stages of flight, performance wise.

I haven’t noticed any performance hit with BATC. Maybe 3-4 fps but that would happen with any traffic addon that’s puts a bunch of planes on screen.

Is this happening for you at all airports?

I had all the sliders maxed at RJTT this morning and nearly every spot was filled.

I agree  it is a mixed bag with all sliders maxed but generally good.  I would like the injection to happen faster though.

I've so far only tried it on a EGPH to EGLL route.

In all fairness, I'm still working on getting the arrival phase to EGLL stutter free, regardless of using BATC.

I'll try again into a less demanding airfield. I use FSLTL models, by-the-way.

I’ve been chasing the dragon trying to find a solution, but every single traffic/ATC addon is a compromise. Right now FSHUD edges out as the leader… but it’s not perfect and has its own issues.

Not sure if you noticed this setting, as your comment does not mention it. In Options, Below Traffic is a setting called "Traffic Seasons" with three settings, Live Season, Summer and Winter:-

BeyondATC's traffic seasons

refer to its handling of airline schedules, which dynamically shift between Northern Hemisphere summer and winter data to reflect real-world flight patterns, making traffic more realistic; users can often toggle or manage these seasonal settings within the experimental alpha versions for varied flight experiences, though the system relies on installed aircraft models and simulates traffic based on collected historical data rather than live feeds.

How it works

  • Seasonal Data: The traffic engine pulls data based on real-world airline schedules, so it reflects summer or winter airline operations, though this data is for a specific week in the past, say, a summer week for summer traffic.
  • Alpha Feature: Traffic injection is an early (alpha) feature, so it's still developing but aims for realistic, integrated AI aircraft.
  • Traffic Density: You control the amount of traffic via sliders in the settings, affecting parked planes and departures.
  • Model Dependent: You need to install aircraft models (like FSLTL or AIG) for the traffic to appear in the simulator.
  • Simulator Time: Traffic is loaded based on your simulator's time, not live time, so night flights might have less movement.
  •

  • Toggle/Switch: Future updates aim to include a toggle to switch between summer and winter traffic data or let the simulator's date determine it.
  • Experimental Access: You typically access the alpha traffic in BeyondATC's experimental (supporter) version, with settings in the options menu.
  •

Key takeaway

BeyondATC's "seasons" are about schedule data, not live weather; the system uses historical schedules to inject realistic traffic that changes depending on whether it's using summer or winter schedule data, enhancing immersion by varying airport activity.

Reality Is For People Who Can't Handle Simulation!

I recommend starting with the default settings to ensure everything is properly configured. You can follow the instructions in this guide: FS Live Traffic User Guide

  • Downscaling can make the simulator smoother and improve FPS: YouTube Guide

  • In BATC AI settings, it’s best to set all sliders to 5.

  • In the simulator settings, set Parked Aircraft and Traffic to OFF.

  • In Career mode, set Air Traffic to OFF.

  • Optional tip: You can fly with a friend as long as you’re on the same server (e.g., West Europe). Choose the server with the lowest ping for the smoothest experience.

Good luck!

I am curious why you suggest 5 for AI settings?  I have everything maxed.

AIG is the best for me, have been using it for many years. This morning at CYYC constant traffic taxiing out and landing. spacer.png
